Position Summary: The Settlements Accountant is responsible for performing detailed client account reconciliations, processing settlements and provider payments, and maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial records. This role plays a key part in managing journal entries, expense documentation, and ensuring compliance with internal controls. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, advanced Excel proficiency, and the ability to communicate financial data clearly. With a focus on accuracy, organization, and confidentiality, the Settlements Accountant supports efficient accounting operations and timely issue resolution.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform client account reconciliations on settlement workups, client and credit card expenses
• Perform accounts payable tasks by cutting settlement and provider checks
• Identify and maintain internal controls and procedures
• Update and maintain journal entries, expense vouchers and credit card receipts in accounting journals, ledgers, and other financial records
• Responds to client requests for status updates; investigates issues as needed
• Requests funding from vendor, through weekly reporting; investigate issues and close cases, as needed
• Maintains data integrity of all Accounting systems
• Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be able to communicate financial concepts and data
• Excellent critical thinking, organizational and problem-solving skills
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to multi-task and to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
• Maintains unwavering confidentiality and integrity
• Performs other duties as required.
Work Experience Requirements:
• Three to five years’ experience in a similar role
• Experience involving multi-state/multi-business unit entities
• Public accounting experience within a personal injury law firm is a plus
Education Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
Physical Requirements:
• Office environment with normal business hours necessary to satisfactorily perform job functions.
• Stationary Position – Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time.
• Move or Traverse – This position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, meeting rooms, office machinery, etc. May occasionally ascends/descends the stairs to get to other floors, cafeteria and parking area.
• Dexterity – constantly operates a computer and other office machinery such as a copy machine/printer.
• Move, Transport, Position, Put, Install, Remove - Occasionally moves supplies weighing up to 10 pounds for various presentation and event needs.
• Communicate, Detect, Converse with, Discern, Convey, Express oneself, Exchange information - The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
• Detect, Determine, Perceive, Identify, Recognize, Judge, Observe, Inspect, Estimate, Assess - The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
