Reporting directly to the CTO, you will be responsible for the strategy, architecture, execution, and evolution of our data systems that serve as one of our companies core strengths. This is a true “head of data” role with accountability for how data is collected, processed, governed, surfaced, and operationalized across the business.

You will lead senior managers and directors, shape long-term data strategy, and partner closely with Product, AI/ML, Engineering, and Leadership to ensure data is reliable, scalable, and aligned with Wizard’s product and growth goals.

What You’ll Do

Data Strategy & Leadership

  • Set and own the company-wide data strategy across engineering, analytics, acquisition, and operations
  • Build and lead a multi-disciplinary data organization with clear charters, ownership, and accountability
  • Translate company and product priorities into a coherent data roadmap
  • Establish success metrics for data reliability, coverage, quality, and business impact

Architecture & Platform

  • Own the design and evolution of Wizard’s data architecture covering ingestion, compilation, auditing, and analytics
  • Ensure systems scale reliably as data volume, product complexity, and customer usage grow
  • Balance near-term execution with long-term architectural health and flexibility

Data Acquisition

  • Oversee large-scale data acquisition through web crawling, third party APIs, and data feeds in various formats as a core product input
  • Ensure Spark-based data compilation pipelines are efficient, resilient, compliant, and adaptable to changing sources
  • Partner closely with AI/ML and product teams to align data acquisition with model and product needs

Analytics & Data Products

  • Lead the analytics function that supports product, growth, operations, and leadership decision-making
  • Ensure data is accessible, trusted, and well-modeled for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Drive standards for metrics definition, reporting, and experimentation

Data Operations & Governance

  • Own data quality, observability, incident response, and operational rigor across all data systems
  • Establish governance, privacy, and security practices appropriate for scale and regulatory expectations
  • Ensure strong documentation, operational readiness, and clear escalation paths

Cross-functional Partnership

  • Serve as a senior thought partner to Product, AI/ML, Engineering, and Leadership
  • Influence roadmap decisions by grounding discussions in data realities and tradeoffs
  • Act as the primary executive owner for data across the organization

What We’re Looking For

  • 12+ years of experience across data engineering, data platforms, or analytics, with significant leadership scope
  • 6+ years leading senior managers and/or directors in complex data organizations
  • Proven experience owning end-to-end data systems in a production, cloud-based environment (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
  • Deep understanding of large-scale data ingestion, pipelines, analytics, and operational reliability using Apache Spark for parallel processing and Airflow for orchestration
  • Strong judgment in balancing speed, quality, cost, and long-term maintainability
  • Ability to operate comfortably at both strategic and deeply technical levels
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience

Nice to Have

  • Experience with large-scale crawling or external data acquisition systems
  • Background working closely with ML or AI-driven products
  • Experience scaling data organizations in high-growth startups
  • Familiarity with modern data stacks, real-time processing, and experimentation platforms

Compensation & Benefits

The expected base salary range for this role is $260,000 – $285,000 USD, and will vary based on skills, experience, role level, and geographic location. Final compensation will be determined by considering these factors alongside overall role scope and responsibilities.

In addition to base salary, Wizard offers:

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) plan
  • Flexible PTO and company holidays
  • Fully remote work within the United States

Wizard is committed to fair, transparent, and competitive compensation practices.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
