Senior Backend Engineer (Golang) - Localization Platform

Berlin, Germany; Helsinki, Finland; Stockholm, Sweden; Tallinn, Estonia

About Wolt

At Wolt, we create technology that brings joy, simplicity and earnings to the neighborhoods of the world. In 2014 we started with delivery of restaurant food. Now we’re building the delivery of (almost) everything and you’ll find us in over 500 cities in 30 countries around the world. In 2022 we joined forces with DoorDash and together we keep on dreaming big and expanding across the globe.

Working at Wolt isn’t always easy, but it’s definitely exciting. Here you’ll learn more, build more, and ship more than in most other companies. You’ll be challenged a lot, but also have a lot of fun on the way. So, if you’re a self-starter with drive and entrepreneurial spirit, this could be the ride of your life.

Building the future of localization at Wolt and DoorDash 🌍

At Wolt and DoorDash, we build products that connect people across 35+ countries and more than 30 languages. To make our products truly feel local everywhere we operate, we’re creating a new Localization Platform - a unified foundation that enables every team to deliver high-quality, localized experiences efficiently and at scale.

This is a chance to define the future of how localization works across Wolt and DoorDash - shaping the systems, APIs, and workflows that bring local context into every product we ship. Our mission is to make localization seamless, reliable, and empowering - helping every engineer and content creator speak to users in their own language with clarity, consistency, and care.

We’re now looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (Golang). In this role, you will design and build the core systems that power our localization platform. This includes string storage and distribution, seamless integration with third-party translation services, and robust developer SDKs and APIs. These systems are critical in serving thousands of engineers and millions of users globally.

What you’ll be doing

  • Design, develop, and operate backend services that power the localization platform - including string storage and distribution, translation job orchestration in Go.
  • Collaborate with frontend, backend, and mobile platform teams to ensure seamless localization integration into their development workflows. Develop SDKs and APIs to streamline the localization of features and applications for engineers.
  • Build integrations with third-party Translation Management Systems (TMS) to automate translation workflows and keep translations synchronized across languages and products.
  • Help define and evolve the architecture, reliability, and scalability of the platform, ensuring it can support the growth of Wolt and DoorDash globally.
  • Partner closely with product managers, localization specialists, and engineers to deliver a platform that’s both technically sound and user-centric.
  • Drive adoption and continuous improvement through feedback, metrics, and data-driven iteration.

Our humble expectations

Must-haves

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including backend system design and API development at scale.
  • Strong proficiency in Golang, or significant experience in a similar backend language with readiness to ramp up quickly.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, and API design (REST/gRPC).
  • Strong knowledge of data modeling and databases.
  • Experience building or integrating with third-party APIs and internal platforms.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and ownership from design to operation.
  • Clear, proactive communication and collaboration across engineering and product teams.

Nice to have

  • Experience building or contributing to platforms or internal developer tools used by other engineering teams.
  • Background in localization, internationalization (i18n), or experience with translation workflows and systems.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, CI/CD, and observability tooling (Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
  • Experience developing SDKs, libraries, or APIs for other engineers.

Why you’ll love working with us

  • Impact at scale - your work will power localized experiences for millions of users and thousands of engineers across Wolt and DoorDash.
  • Greenfield opportunity - build the platform from the ground up, shaping how localization works across our global ecosystem.
  • End-to-end ownership - influence the technical vision, architecture, and adoption of the platform across product lines.
  • Collaborative culture - work alongside product, content design, and developer experience teams in an environment that values curiosity, kindness, and technical excellence .
  • Growth and learning - we believe great engineers never stop learning. You’ll get opportunities to mentor, pair, and experiment in a culture that rewards craftsmanship and initiative.
