Every order on Wolt passes through us. The Cart & Checkout team owns the critical path from the moment a customer adds something to their cart to the moment they Slide to order - and the experience that follows. We run in 29 countries, handle millions of daily transactions, and build the surfaces that every other team depends on.

We’re hiring a senior backend engineer who wants to be at the front line of what engineering looks like in the age of AI - and who wants to do it on systems that genuinely matter.

• We've shipped features millions of customers use daily: Double order, persistent baskets, group orders, scheduled delivery, tipping, reviews and so on. The team builds and owns these end-to-end. You'll join a team with a strong track record and keep that momentum going.

• Visible surfaces, not hidden plumbing: Cart, checkout, scheduled delivery, tipping, group orders - these are the screens customers see and use every day. Downstream teams across iOS, Android, and Web build on top of the APIs you design.
• Technical ownership and high-priority projects: Your time is split between maintaining and evolving critical services and shipping visible features along the main user path. No pure maintenance. No feature factory.
• Cross-org engineering at scale: We co-own checkout APIs that serve Wolt, DoorDash, and Deliveroo clients simultaneously - aligning ordering experiences across three of the world’s leading delivery platforms.

🤖 AI-Native Engineering - What This Means For Us

• We’re building a team at the forefront of agentic coding. This isn’t about using Copilot to autocomplete boilerplate. We mean engineers who:
• Design workflows where AI agents handle entire task loops, from spec to PR.
• Think in terms of orchestration: what does a human review, what does the agent own?
• Build internal tooling and abstractions that make AI-assisted development faster and more reliable for the whole team.
• Stay curious and ahead of the curve - trying new models, agents, and tools as they emerge, and developing a clear perspective on what’s genuinely useful vs. hype. If you find yourself naturally asking “can an agent do this?” before reaching for the keyboard, you’ll fit right in.

🔍 What We’re Looking For

• Strong backend engineering fundamentals: you've built and shipped services that run at scale, and you understand what that entails: API design, observability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Genuine enthusiasm for AI-first development: You use AI tools daily, have real perspective on how to get the most out of them, and want to push what's possible when AI agents are part of the engineering workflow.
• You take responsibility for outcomes end-to-end: from design through production, across teams and time zones.
• Collaborative instincts: Cart & Checkout sits at the intersection of purchase, pricing, payments, logistics, and so many others. Working across disciplines is the norm, not the exception.
• Experience with Python, Kotlin, or Go: We’re language-pragmatic but these are what we run - and you should feel at home in at least one.

You care about the product as much as the code. You have opinions about architecture but hold them lightly. You communicate well, share context generously, and build trust with the people you work with - across engineering, product, and design.

You’ve been experimenting with AI agents and agentic coding workflows - not because someone told you to, but because you couldn’t help yourself. You think about how to redesign your development loop from first principles, not how to bolt AI onto the way you already work.
