
Senior Full Stack Engineer

We’re growing quickly and seeing strong demand from customers across the country. To meet that demand, we’re looking for highly motivated engineers based in the Bay Area who are excited to work in person from our San Francisco office. As an engineer at Wonderschool, you’ll work closely with our product, design, data, and sales teams, as well as our CEO, Chris Bennett, who is based in SF and deeply involved in product development.
There are a number of exciting challenges ahead, including new 0 to 1 product builds, AI-powered features, and scaling our core platform. We’re looking for engineers who take a customer-first mindset, love solving hard problems, thrive in collaborative environments, and want to build technology that has a real-world impact on families, educators, and communities.

Responsibilities:
- Partner with product, design, data to build products and features customers love that help child care programs grow their business.
- Fully own and deliver features from end to end, from requirements analysis, estimation, and project planning, to data modeling and feature delivery.
- Debug production issues across the entire stack.
- Participate in rotating engineering support.
- Coordinate with QA to ensure quick bug resolution on critical issues.
- Ensure a high percentage of test coverage across the codebase.
- Proactively communicate progress to our product team and leadership.
- Work closely with customers to understand their needs and workflows, and use that understanding to propose and build better solutions.
- Actively contribute new ideas, propose solutions, and help improve our engineering processes, team culture, and product thinking.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and cross-functional teammates.
- Help us scale the platform with forward-thinking approaches, embracing multi-tenant, service-oriented architecture and future-looking infrastructure.
- Use AI tools thoughtfully to improve development velocity and user experience.
Required Qualifications:
- 6+ years of relevant professional experience as full stack engineer
- Deep knowledge of at least one modern front-end framework (React, Angular, or Vue)
- Proficiency with back-end technologies (Node.js or similar, Java experience is a plus)
- Strong database skills (SQL) with Postgres experience
- Writing high-quality and readable code with effective test coverage
- Interacting with product and engineering stakeholders; articulating and resolving concerns about potential side effects of a feature
- Clear verbal and written communication skills
- Proven experience breaking down features into bitesize deliverables
- Experience working with relative estimations with a high degree of accuracy
- Demonstrated ability to solve hard technical problems with creativity and speed
- Track record of working in highly collaborative teams and being a proactive, optimistic contributor
- Deep care for the customer and the product, with curiosity and hunger to make things better
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on services-based, multi-tenant API driven software architecture for complex SaaS solutions.
- Experience designing data models that integrate multiple business applications with complex business processes
- Previous experience with the design/development of REST and GraphQL APIs
- Experience with containerization, serverless and cloud platforms
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Previous experience working with early stage startups
- Working with a distributed team
- Experience using or implementing AI to improve user experience or development processes
What We Offer:
Wonderschool provides the wage ranges it reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for all remote roles and as otherwise required by applicable law. The expected range of starting pay for this role is $180,000 - $220,000 annually. Actual compensation may vary within the listed range based on a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, experience, and specific geographic location.
