Position Overview

Woolpert is hiring a Field Survey Crew Chief to join our dynamic Survey Team at our Albuquerque office. The Senior Survey Crew Chief is a senior-level technical position within the survey and geomatics discipline at the forefront of transformative projects that directly impact advanced manufacturing and infrastructure development programs.  The survey work will primarily support projects on-site for construction and facility monitoring of buildings and equipment. This position reports to the Survey Team Leader and is responsible for independently leading survey crews in the field and overseeing all aspects of survey operations of various types of survey operations, ensuring precise data collection, adherence to industry standards, and compliance with company and client procedures.

In this role you will be focused on utilizing our cutting-edge reality capture technologies to deliver digital twins, high accuracy geodetic and construction control, scan to BIM, and precision monitoring services.  You will be involved in planning effective data acquisition, processing and quality control solutions. The Senior Survey Crew Chief also plays a pivotal role in mentoring instrument operators, junior surveyors, and driving project success.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead and manage survey crew in conducting complex field surveys, including boundary, topographic, construction, and as-built surveys.
  • Operate and maintain advanced survey instruments such as total stations, 3D laser scanning systems, GNSS equipment, levels, and data collectors, ensuring equipment is calibrated and functioning correctly.
  • Reconnaissance, setting, establishment, and management of 2D and 3D high accuracy control marks across project sites, interior and exterior to buildings.
  • Prepare comprehensive field notes, sketches, and detailed survey reports to document survey activities.
  • Monitor project progress, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to maintain timelines and budget constraints will ensure successful project completion.
  • Process daily files with software packages such as Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD, Global Mapper, and Bentley Microstation to ensure task completion.
  • Obtain necessary project safety certifications.  Enforce and promote strict safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all crew members.
  • Coordinate with team leaders, project managers, and clients to ensure survey work meets project objectives and client expectations.

What You Will Bring:

  • Experience: Proven work experience conducting high accuracy control and 3D laser scanning of building or vertical infrastructure, or in a similar role.
  • Technology:  Proficiency with total stations, digital levels, 3D laser scanning systems (fixed or wearable), smart phone/tablet devices, and data collectors.
  • Software Proficiency: Computer skills and ability to perform data transfer, operate surveying data processing software, and CAD/GIS applications (e.g.:  Trimble Business Center (TBC), AutoCAD Civil 3D suite and add-ons, and Microsoft Office suite).
  • Project & Client Management Skills: Comprehension in balancing schedules, budgets, and communications with Project Manager and clients in the field.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and mentoring abilities to guide and develop survey team.
  • Attention to Detail: Keen eye for detail to ensure accuracy and quality in all survey products.
  • Flexibility: Ability to change tactics and direction when needed to solve problems.
  • Licensing: Must have valid driver’s license and pass a pre-employment Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check. Must maintain satisfactory driving record, as required by our insurance company.
  • Eligibility: Must successfully pass pre-employment background and drug screening. Periodic drug testing may be required per company policy

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 7+ years related experience.  Experience in building construction, manufacturing or industrial environments preferred.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field, preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of survey principles, methods, and industry practices.
  • Proficiency using advanced surveying, scanning, and modeling software (e.g.:  Register 360, STAR*NET, NavVis, Cyclone, REVIT, Terrascan, etc.)
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze complex survey data, maps, and construction plans.
  • Proficient in survey-related mathematical concepts (proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, slope, elevations, etc.).
  • OSHA-10 certification, OSHA-30 preferred

 

Physical Qualifications: 

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Good physical condition and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Frequent reaching with hands and arms, bending, and climbing/balancing.
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Capability to observe and document construction activities.
  • Ability to travel as needed to corporate locations worldwide.

Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Pay Range

$35 - $39 USD
