Position Overview
Woolpert is hiring a Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our dynamic Department of the Air Force (DAF) GeoBase team based in San Antonio, Texas. This is an on-site role with a schedule of 4 days working at the Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC) on Lackland Air Force Base and 1 day working remotely. The CAD SME reports to the GeoBase Operations Team Leader and is responsible for the management and use of the Air Force Civil Engineering GeoBase program CAD software portfolio. Responsibilities of the GeoBase Computer-Aided Design Subject Matter Expert include CAD software and data inventory management and optimization, project staff training, process improvements, workflow documentation, and CAD integration across all facets of the DAF geospatial engineering enterprise. This includes scoping and procurement of all software, training, process upgrades, and any other equipment and services necessary for DAF GeoBase program and Air Force Civil Engineering CAD-GIS integration mission success.
What You Will Do:
As a GeoBase CAD SME at Woolpert, you will:
- Manage the AFCEC Computer-Aided Design software portfolio:
- Right-size software versions and quantities for efficiency and compatibility across DAF
- Ensure engineering design and GIS integration requirements are met or exceeded with current software
- Plan and scope upgrades necessary to meet emerging capability requirements
- Maintain knowledge of the latest CAD technology industry trends, advising client of potential impacts to civil engineering mission
- Manage CAD data portfolios and standards compliance across the program and organization:
- Optimize processes for the integration, storage and retrieval of CAD data
- Ensure compliance with existing DoD and DAF data standards
- Implement, refine, and develop CAD standards to satisfy mission requirements
- Gather requirements from mission partners to enable maximum integration across the DAF enterprise
- Train program and organization staff and end users:
- Train staff in CAD software use, capabilities, and best practices
- Train staff on CAD-GIS data integration processes and best practices
- Create and update training documentation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) guidance
- Document DAF standards and workflow processes; create and update GeoBase Knowledge Base for end user self help
- Provide expert advice to client for suggested inputs to update Air Force Instruction (DAFI), Policy (AFPD), Career Field Education and Training Plan (CFETP), or other official guidance or standards
- Evaluate existing training and user performance and provide improvement feedback, updating training and processes as needed
- Utilize the GeoBase Agile framework to enable task visibility and project transparency to AFCEC client:
- Use Agile platform (Jira, Confluence) to record all processes and tasks, and manage all projects
- Analyze current CAD, engineering design, and GIS integration processes and recommend improvements or other best practice solutions
What You Will Bring:
- U.S. citizenship
- Active Tier 1 Investigation (National Agency Check and Inquiries NACI), or security clearance, or the ability to pass a Tier 1 Investigation.
- Willingness to undergo a background check and drug screening
- Extensive knowledge of Autodesk software and capabilities:
- Four (4) years of experience using Autodesk AutoCAD software
- Four (4) years of experience performing computer-aided drafting and design processes in a production environment
- Two (2) years of experience working with AutoCAD toolsets:
- Map 3D and Raster Design preferred, but Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, MEP, or Plant 3D acceptable
- Two (2) years of experience implementing or managing drawing vault solutions
- Two (2) to four (4) years of experience integrating CAD data with geospatial data and systems
- Basic knowledge of/experience with Esri ArcGIS software and capabilities
- Experience training CAD end users
- Innovative mindset – able to quickly respond and adapt to industry changes as well as internal initiatives
- Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in a role requiring:
- Excellent problem-solving and consulting skills with emphasis on client and team member engagement
- Proven experience providing excellent customer service
- Strong technical proficiency using Microsoft Office products
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills necessary for our dynamic working environment
- Attention to detail and proven experience meeting data quality assurance and accuracy standards
- Strong organizational, time management, and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently, collaboratively as part of a team, and as a member of a large organization
- Ability to offer constructive feedback and problem solving, as well as clear direction to support goals
- Proficiency with the A/E/C data standard, Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment (SDSFIE) GIS data standard, or experience with other defined CAD or spatial data models is preferred
- Experience using Agile methodologies, preferably with Atlassian (Jira, Confluence) software is preferred
- Proficiency with Autodesk Revit software is preferred
- Proficiency with other CAD software such as MicroStation, SolidWorks, SketchUp, etc is preferred
- Proficiency with Esri or other GIS software is preferred
- Proficiency with Trimble Business Center, ArcGIS Field Maps, or other field data collection/surveying software is preferred
- Military drafting experience, especially as a USAF 3E5, Army 12Y, 81A, 81B, or 81C, USMC 1300 or 1361, Navy Seabee Engineering Aide or CEC, or other related background is preferred
- Experience with the DAF GeoBase program is preferred
- Experience with DoD geospatial data or systems is preferred

Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Pay Range
$85,000 - $95,000 USD
