The Distinguished Engineer is the highest technical Individual Contributor position within the organization. You possess extensive knowledge and experience in a specific discipline and are recognized as a global subject matter expert. Your impact spans the entire company through the definition of long-term technology vision and strategy. You operate "above" value streams, shaping the industry direction of Backbase rather than focusing on day-to-day execution.

Meet the job

  • Technology Vision: Define and implement the 3-year to 5-year+ technology horizon and enterprise data direction.
  • Strategic Architecture: Conceptualize product architecture in the core team and design strategic solutions that span the entire Backbase stack.
  • Evangelism & Representation: Serve as the external spokesperson for the company at conferences and innovation hubs.
  • Technical Conscience: Act as the final authority on technical integrity, resolving the most complex engineering initiatives and resolving existential technical risks.
  • Mentorship: Provide functional oversight and guidance to the entire engineering team, specifically coaching and multiplying other senior technical leaders and Principals.
  • Change Management: Lead Backbase technical initiatives across the company and drive large-scale technical change-management programs.
  • AI-Native Ambassador: Champion the adoption of agentic tooling, LLM-driven workflows, and AI automation within your team to accelerate the development lifecycle and embed AI-native practices in everyday engineering.

  • You have 15+ years of professional experience with a track record of inventing new paradigms or creating new product categories.
  • You are recognized for external thought leadership, such as being a published author or keynote speaker.
  • You have an exceptional ability to translate complex technology bets into long-term business value.
  • You are a trusted advisor to C-level executives, shaping the market and influencing partners and regulators.
