Reports to CEO
80% of the role – compliance products and strategy
20% of the role - help on other business operation work from legal work, growth test loops to marketing tests
About the Role
We’re looking for a bold, entrepreneurial operator to lead one of the most important 0–1 initiatives at Workstream: solving compliance for restaurants. Most restaurants today are operating in legally gray areas—misclassifying workers, missing documentation, or skirting wage and labor laws without realizing it. Our job is to help them fix it.
This business operations role sits at the intersection of product, growth, marketing, and customer success. You’ll own the full stack—from identifying the compliance pain points, to framing the market wedge, to shipping solutions, to launching go-to-market plays that drive urgency and trust.
“How do we help restaurant owners realize they’re at risk—and offer them a dead-simple solution to get compliant, fast?”
This is not a supporting function. This is the business.
What You’ll Do
Strategy & Market Definition
- Map the restaurant compliance landscape: Identify the most common violations (e.g. I-9 issues, misclassification, wage/hour tracking gaps, etc.)
- Build a narrative: Help restaurants see non-compliance as a risk to the business, not just a paperwork issue.
- Define our wedge: What’s the compliance problem we can solve first that creates urgency and pull for more?
Product & Solution Development
- Partner with Product to scope and validate solutions—whether that’s documentation workflows, real-time audits, compliance dashboards, or integrations with legal partners.
- Run scrappy experiments with design and eng to test MVPs and iterate quickly.
- Build the end-to-end compliance “stack” for restaurants—simple, automated, and trustworthy.
Go-to-Market & Growth
- Craft GTM messaging that educates and activates: “Are you at risk of a labor audit?”
- Work with Marketing to create fear-based, value-based, and trust-based campaigns.
- Enable Sales and CS with tools to sell compliance as a value add, not just a cost.
- Create feedback loops with customers to turn early adopters into advocates.
Cross-functional Leadership
- Coordinate across Product, Marketing, Sales, CS, and Legal.
- Build internal alignment around compliance as a strategic differentiator.
- Drive execution from 0–1 and scale successful plays.
What We’re Looking For
- 5–8+ years in a cross-functional product, growth, or strategy role; bonus if you’ve shipped 0–1 products or run a P&L.
- Experience in B2B SaaS, HR tech, compliance, fintech, or SMB tools a plus.
- Ability to take a murky, low-awareness problem and turn it into a defined market opportunity.
- Both strategic and hands-on—you’re equally comfortable crafting positioning as you are interviewing restaurant operators or sketching product flows.
- Comfortable using fear, risk, and operational urgency as part of your toolkit—but always anchored in helping customers win.
KPI for the role
- Clear deliverables of GTM messaging, product marketing materials and sales enablement materials focused around compliance
- Enablement of GTM team so that they are able to talk clearly and intelligently around compliance, risk management and more
- Help us become the leader of HR and Payroll compliance in the restaurants space in the US - measured by increased website visit (landing page for compliance), inbound pipeline increase mentioning or discussing HR compliance and/or closed revenue for our HR compliance products.
20% of the role
- The above role is the focus but using the 80/20 role, there’s other potential projects for you to work on
- Re-working our privacy policy on legal front so we can market to hourly workers
- Working on product marketing presentation and enablement to help company get on the same page
- Growth marketing projects - test out offline billboard marketing, helping to get customer feedback and organizing field events
- Working on product-led growth for our voice AI product
