Staff Market Designer, Economic Design

Munich, San Francisco

About the Company:

World is a network of real humans, built on privacy-preserving proof-of-human technology, and powered by a globally inclusive financial network that enables the free flow of digital assets for all. It is built to connect, empower, and be owned by everyone.

About the team:

The Economic Design team is responsible for Worldcoin’s economic design. In our team, Economists, Computer Scientists and Data Scientists work together to rapidly design, build, and field-test incentive mechanisms that scale to thousands of Operators and more than a billion participants of the Worldcoin network. We partner with other teams across the organization to advance our products (i.e., the World App and World ID) and improve our market operations. We have earned a reputation for our hands-on approach, responsiveness, technical expertise, precision, and impactful solutions.

About the Opportunity:

You will be responsible for designing and building the economic mechanisms that power Worldcoin. Examples include user incentives that drive appreciation for and usage of the products, and auctions to allocate contracts to Operators in a fair and efficient manner. To this end, you will apply market design thinking to design the most appropriate mechanisms. Your decisions will be informed by insights from data, experimentation, expert advice, and a deep understanding of the environment where these mechanisms are deployed. Your work will directly impact the mechanisms that are used at a global scale as part of Worldcoin's incentive design and will have a lasting impact on the success of the Worldcoin project.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop a deep and comprehensive understanding of the Worldcoin project and its components, including World ID, the World App, the Orb, the markets, and the users
  • Propose and develop market design solutions to key problems across the project, including problems that you identify yourself
  • Work closely with your key stakeholders across the Worldcoin organization (in particular Market Operations, Product, Legal, and Engineering) regarding the implementation of new mechanisms
  • Take full ownership of your projects; plan them, manage them, execute them, and independently drive them to success
  • Collaborate closely with experts on the Economics and Data Science team on the design of new economic mechanisms
  • Analyze data yourself and together with data scientists to make data-driven decisions related to your projects, including the design and implementation of experiments and additional data collection channels where the required insights are not readily available

About You:

  • PhD in economics, computer science, operations research or a related field; or a Master’s degree in combination with work experience as a market designer
  • 5+ years of practical experience as an economist, data scientist, research scientist, statistician or consultant
  • Proven track record of applying concepts from market design, game theory, auction theory, or behavioral economics to solve real-world problems
  • 2+ years of experience working with data (e.g., using SQL, R, Python or similar)
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills
  • Radical end-to-end ownership
  • Practically oriented and “getting-the-job-done” mindset
  • Thriving in a fast-paced and continuously evolving environment
  • Each of the following is a plus: project management experience; basic understanding of blockchain technology
