About The Opportunity:
Tools for Humanity is looking for a Senior Electronics Hardware Engineer to help work on developing, testing, and upgrading our flagship hardware devices, including the Orb. This role will work closely with Engineering (AI, Software & Mechanics), Manufacturing, and Industrial Design to create and produce cutting-edge technologies at scale.
Core Responsibilities:
- Own the electronic design of PCBAs for the Orb, ensuring they meet performance and reliability standards.
- Develop and implement advanced electrical systems and circuits for the Orb.
- Evaluate and verify existing hardware designs, identifying and resolving any flaws.
- Diagnose and repair hardware issues to maintain optimal functionality.
- Oversee the qualification, verification, and validation processes for developed hardware.
- Commission and repair electrical assemblies, ensuring compliance with design specifications.
- Program microcontrollers in C with real-time operating systems (FreeRTOS and Zephyr) for testing and device bring-up.
- Coordinate with software engineers to validate software releases on hardware and address potential issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate product design and enhance overall performance.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.
About You:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 8-10 years of experience in electronics product development, encompassing concept to design, planning, circuit development, and multilayer layout creation with E-CAD tools, preferably Altium or EAGLE.
- Proficiency in circuit simulation tools.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Solid understanding of embedded systems and microcontrollers.
- Experience using measuring equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and VNA.
- Hands-on experience in developing and integrating embedded camera-based hardware systems.
- Good programming skills in C for microcontroller development, with experience in real-time operating systems (RTOS), preferably FreeRTOS and Zephyr.
- Experience with network connectivity, including BLE, Wi-Fi, and LTE, with expertise in antenna optimization.
- Ability to Inspire and mentor the team by leveraging in-depth technical knowledge and extensive experience.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong drive and work ethic to lead projects to successful completion.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience creating automated PCBA testers for mass production.
- Experience with hardware security, including HSM, TPMs, and secure elements.
- Experience with decentralized manufacturing processes.
- Expertise in conducting DFMEA, identifying and mitigating potential issues.
- Previous experience with fast-moving startups.
