About the Opportunity:

This is a unique opportunity to co-architect a highly-functioning legal function at a high-profile project sitting at the interaction of several emerging fields. Working directly with the Chief Legal Officer, you will be instrumental in defining and executing our approach to the full range of privacy and security legal considerations.

What You'll Do: 

  • Member of legal leadership, helping to build and support the strategy for the legal team in collaboration with other legal leads.
  • Lead and help develop our Privacy Legal team, responsible for privacy, security and AI related legal guidance, in partnership with other legal teams.
  • Responsible for compliance efforts with globally privacy and data protection regulations around the world, through the development and maintenance of a global privacy program, including training, auditing, reporting, and more.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory, governmental, industry, and peer groups on privacy and data security issues.
  • Oversee Privacy related regulatory investigations response work, in partnership with the Market Operations Legal and Regulatory and Litigation teams.
  • Work closely with legal subject matter experts to ensure privacy regulatory compliance.
  • Act as legal POC for the Information Security team, including on incident response matters.
  • Help scale the legal organization by developing innovative processes in partnership with other legal teams to support privacy initiatives in a fast-moving Engineering, Product, and Design teams.
  • Stay abreast of emerging legal trends and best practices in the tech industry, and provide thought leadership within the legal team and the company.
  • Be a collaborative team player with a positive attitude.
  • Be willing and able to roll up your sleeves and jump right in to support the team. 
  • Inspire and energize the Privacy team, empowering each teammate to do the best work of their lives.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Deep experience in privacy, security and AI laws.
  • Very strong understanding of GDPR, LGPD, APAC privacy laws, and other global privacy laws.
  • Experience building privacy programs from the ground up.
  • First hand experience of privacy regulatory investigations, incident response management, breach reporting, and the practical realities of managing a global privacy program.
  • Someone who’s excited about and comfortable with mastering new areas of law and tech, in particular cryptocurrencies.
  • Excellent legal and business judgment and strategic thinking to ensure appropriate prioritization.
  • Able to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the company on complex, multifaceted issues.
  • Detail-oriented, business-friendly, and a team player, with an ability to think creatively and accommodate tight deadlines.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Operate as a player coach, able to get into the details and execute while supporting and building a collaborative team.
  • Excellent academic credentials.
  • A sense of humor.

Minimum qualifications:

  • JD degree from an accredited university.
  • Active membership in at least one state bar.
  • 15+ years of experience practicing law.
  • 10+ years experience across product, IP, marketing, and other legal disciplines.
  • Experience leading in-house product legal teams.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Based in either San Francisco or Munich

Preferred qualifications:

  • In-house counsel experience with a multinational corporation, preferably in the technology sector.
  • Experience in blockchain technology and cryptocurrency a plus.
  • Ability to communicate in other key languages.

The reasonably estimated salary for this role at TFH in San Francisco ranges from $270,000 - $280,000, plus a competitive long term incentive package, and may include variable compensation. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.
