Surf Team Supervisor

The Surf Team Supervisor plays an integral role in guest safety and guest experience both in and out of the water at Surf Ranch. Under the supervision of the Director of Surf Experience & Surf Team Managers, the Surf Team Supervisor ensures the Surf Team's day to day operations are executed to the standard expected by management and guests alike. The Surf Team Supervisor is responsible for holding all Surf Team members accountable, mitigating labor, and upholding guest satisfaction. This position strives to supply the Surf Team leads with the necessary support and information to ensure the day to day surf operations are well staffed and maintained. The Director of Surf Experience, Surf Team Manager and the Surf Team Supervisor work closely to ensure all equipment, labor budgets, and guest satisfaction are upheld to the Surf Ranch standard. 

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Executing on all pre-arrival information made available by the Surf Team Manager & Guest Experience Coordinator. 
  • Ensure all Surf Team members are properly informed and prepared to host the day's/Night’s  group.
  • Maintain daily labor i.e meal breaks, overtime. Pivot entire staff profile and regularly scheduled meal breaks, overtime and labor according to guests needs and changing circumstances. 
  • Satisfying guest needs or issues as they pertain to the Surf Team. The designated liaison responsible for facilitating the needs of guests and groups throughout their on-site tenure. Any concerns or recommendations are directed through the supervisor.
  • Relays and coordinates all the guest needs to other departments. Facilitates and operational changes regarding the surf operation. Spearheading follows through then executing and changes. 
  • On call for the wants and needs of the group. Delegating needs and wants to the team. 
  • Coordinate with coaching team: Ensure guests have access to their video footage of their time at Surf Ranch 
  • Mitigate all overtime and meal penalties. Taking on roles and responsibilities of the surf coaches and surf guides when the need for it arises. Operational changes. 
  • Ensure Surf Team leads are completing their operational duties 
  • Ensure all surf gear inventory is maintained and accounted for on a daily basis.
  • Documenting and missing gear, overtime or meal penalties. 
  • Direct communication to teams with any heat sheet changes. Responsible for writing the heats.
  • Assist in Managing and maintaining the employee housing. Communicating with the manager on any housing fixes.
  • Assist in training all new hires. Ensuring the follow through with new hires ability to perform the roles and responsibilities. 
  • End of the day shift report. Document all the happenings in a clear and concise fashion. 
  • Supervise opening/closing duties and make sure they are performed to the standard. 
  • Knowledge of fault protocol in absence of a manager. Be able to carry out fault protocol. 
  • Knowledge of other department SOP’s - Especially guest facing departments. 
  • Assume roles and responsibilities of manager when manager is not on duty. 
  • Assume roles and responsibilities of other Surf Team positions when max activations are taking place. 

Qualifications

  • Strong leadership skills
  • Thorough understanding of the Surf Ranch guest schedule and business model
  • Thorough understanding of the Surf Team Lead, Surf Coach, and Surf Guide job descriptions
  • Working knowledge of the Surf Ranch site and facility operations
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • One years previous experience of team management
  • Ability to manage a small team and work in a group/team setting 
  • Surf Ranch specific water safety training 
  • Well rounded, experienced surfer (10 years minimum experience)
  • Ability to coach and teach all levels of surfing

 Physical requirements

  • Physically able to swim, swim in rough and deep water, walk, run, walk or run over rough or uneven surfaces, bend, stoop, lift, push, pull, and carry loads.
  • Must be able to swim at least 550 yards, dive at least 10 feet deep, swim with a 10 pound object for at least 20 yards, and tread water for at least 2 minutes. 
  • Must be able to watch and supervise groups in the ocean and/or bay while coaching technique and supervising safety. 
  • Must be able to recognize and respond to emergencies and prevent injuries or drowning.
