About Open Intelligence:
We are the Activation arm of WPP Open Intelligence. Our team builds the foundational data infrastructure and high-performance edge services that power WPP’s position in the market. With approximately one-third of all global media spend flowing through WPP, our platform operates at the core of this massive network—deeply integrated and adopted by the largest supply-side partners in the AdTech industry.
Operating at our scale presents unique engineering challenges. Our edge services currently handle over 60,000 classification requests per second, while our contextual classification pipelines process 10,000 requests per second. With operations spanning the US, UK, and ongoing expansion into EMEA and APAC, our infrastructure continuously interacts with up to 98% of the population in our active markets. We are an engineering-led team focused on building robust, scalable, and highly reliable systems.

As the digital ecosystem evolves, we are actively developing and releasing a new catalog of privacy-preserving data products. To support this product evolution, our infrastructure is undergoing massive global expansion. By the end of this year, we will be fully operational across the rest of the EMEA and APAC regions. Concurrently, we are deepening our integrations to support even more of the largest supply-side partners in the AdTech industry. We are hiring because we need strong engineering talent to help us architect for this next order of magnitude in scale—ensuring our systems remain resilient, performant, and compliant as our global footprint and feature set rapidly expand.
Location Requirement
This is a hybrid role based in Warsaw, Poland. Candidates must currently reside in Poland or be willing to relocate independently to Warsaw, as relocation support is not provided for this position.
Who we are looking for:
We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer who is passionate about building scalable, reliable, and efficient data platforms that power impactful products and insights across the Open Intelligence ecosystem. You’ll bring strong technical expertise in modern data engineering practices, along with a collaborative mindset and a focus on quality, performance, and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working with large-scale datasets, distributed systems, and cloud-native data technologies, and enjoys solving complex engineering challenges in a fast-paced environment. You’ll work closely with platform, product, analytics, and engineering teams to design and deliver robust data solutions that support innovation, operational excellence, and data-driven decision making at scale.
What you'll be doing:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and processing frameworks across the Open Intelligence platform
- Develop reliable and efficient ETL/ELT workflows to support analytics, product, and operational use cases
- Build and optimize data models, storage solutions, and data integration processes for large-scale datasets
- Partner closely with software engineering, analytics, product, and platform teams to deliver high-quality data solutions
- Improve data quality, observability, reliability, and performance across data systems and pipelines
- Support real-time and batch data processing workflows using modern cloud-native technologies
- Contribute to the design and evolution of data platform architecture, standards, and engineering best practices
- Implement monitoring, testing, and automation to improve operational efficiency and reduce data pipeline failures
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex data and infrastructure issues across distributed systems
- Help drive governance, security, and compliance best practices across data environments
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a strong engineering culture focused on collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement
- Evaluate and introduce new tools, frameworks, and technologies to improve scalability, developer experience, and platform capability
What you'll need:
- Strong communication skills, you can effectively explain technical concepts to various audiences.
- 4+ years of experience in data engineering.
- Solid experience with data wrangling in a language such as Python, Go, or Scala.
- Proficiency in large scale processing engines and related ecosystems (Spark)
- Experience working with CI/CD, version control, and testing best practices.
- Experience with GCP platform.
- Experience working with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform.
- Experience with containerization management tools like Kubernetes.
- A passion for data, technology, and computer languages.
- Interest in leveraging AI coding assistants and prompt engineering to enhance productivity.

The gross salary for this position at the time of this posting is indicated below. This range reflects our broader group’s compensation framework across diverse agencies and disciplines. For this specific role, our offer will be determined within this range based on our internal benchmark, reflecting the specific market conditions for our discipline. Individual compensation varies based on job-related factors, including business needs, experience, level of responsibility and qualifications.
