Business Director

Key purpose of the Business Director role
The business director has ultimate responsibility for the state of the agency's relationship and performance on assigned clients. They ensure that all recommendations drive our clients’ business whilst generating a strong commercial return.
Key responsibilities for the Business Director
People:
- Ensures the team understands the expectations of their role as per the job description
- Inspires and motivates the team to deliver to their job descriptions by giving regular constructive feedback
- Ensures the team understand the Scope of Work on their respective client(s)
- Manages and coaches team as their direct reports and creates professional development plans for their advancement
- Informs / support teams career development and training needs
- Ensures all training is followed up effectively as relevant to help with their ongoing development
- Helps manage requests sent to the client team to ensure they have the thinking space and time required to deliver tasks to a high standard i.e. pushes back as needed
- Motivates the team working across their client’s business to over-deliver against client expectations i.e. drives pro-activity/surprise and delight elements
- Works with Client Services Director on development of structure across the business
Product:
- Has a thorough understanding of agency systems and ensures that the client team follow it as relevant to the required client output
- Produces a business plan at the beginning of each year for their assigned client(s)
- Ensures we are applying the right resources to clients’ business
- Provides client(s) with Thought Leadership relevant to their business throughout the year
- Ensures that the agency’s output answers clients’ business needs and is packaged accordingly
- Ensures quality and timely output across their client portfolio
- Ensures all parts of the business collaborate effectively
- Oversees the delivery of media KPIs to ensure they are met and to contract (where applicable) for clients
- Has an in-depth understanding of the agency and WWP Media product offering and how each are charged out
- Works with regional and global Client Leadership teams as required
- Is responsible for influencing our global and regional team’s agenda and ensuring that New Zealand is represented globally in the best light and our agenda / needs in New Zealand are being considered
Partner (clients):
- Builds deep and influential senior client relationships, leading the path to a strong valued agency relationship
- Provides clients with a well-informed POV at all times (across category, media and marketing etc)
- Has a strong understanding of a client's business - their big picture ambitions and challenges
- Regularly shares knowledge about client business with team members as relevant
- Has a strong understanding of the client’s category
- Identifies resources, either locally or globally that can better enhance our knowledge of a client's business and leverages that knowledge accordingly
Partner (agencies):
- Develops strong and influential relationships with their counterparts (and other relevant senior people) at partner agencies
Profit:
- Runs their assigned client(s) like a small business - is responsible for revenue forecasts and anything tied to the overall profitability of the client
- Manages and updates accurate revenue forecast throughout the – sharing relevant information with Managing Partner in revenue forecast meetings
- Works with the Managing Partner on client contract negotiations
- Responsible for client profitability, reporting to the Managing Partner on an ongoing basis
- Ensures team delivers hours to agreed SOW where possible and that any client related resource issues are understood and managed
- Ensures remuneration KPIs are met to contract (where applicable) for clients
- Spots new commercial opportunities across their client portfolio (based on client business needs) so that revenue grows in line with targets set and all diversified service revenue opportunities
- Responsible for ensuring that clients pay all outstanding debts in accordance with agreed payment terms, assisting in resolving any disputes that arise on particular debts
