Commerce Data Analyst Job Description 

We are seeking a Commerce Data Analyst to support our growing Commerce practice across a portfolio. This role will be responsible for gathering, analyzing, and synthesizing commerce, retail, category, and shopper data to uncover actionable insights that drive client growth. 

The ideal candidate combines strong analytical capabilities with intellectual curiosity and business acumen. They are comfortable working with large datasets, identifying trends and opportunities, and translating findings into clear recommendations for both internal teams and client stakeholders. 

This role will support both new business initiatives and existing client engagements, partnering closely with our Commerce Strategy and Activation teams.  

Key Responsibilities 

Data Analysis & Insights 

  • Analyze commerce, category, retailer, and shopper data to identify growth opportunities, competitive threats, and emerging trends.  
  • Develop actionable insights that help solve client business challenges and inform commerce strategies.  
  • Translate complex datasets into clear, concise narratives and recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.  
  • Conduct category, brand, retailer, and competitive analyses across multiple verticals.  

Reporting & Intelligence 

  • Pull, organize, and maintain data from a variety of syndicated and commerce intelligence platforms.  
  • Build recurring and ad hoc reports to support client business reviews, strategic planning, and executive presentations.  
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality control across all reporting deliverables.  
  • Create data visualizations that simplify complex data sets.  

Client & Business Support 

  • Support new business pitches by providing market intelligence, category trends, retailer insights, and competitive assessments.  
  • Partner with Commerce Strategy teams on project-based analyses for existing clients.  
  • Respond to ad hoc client requests and develop data-driven recommendations.  
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to connect insights to broader commerce, media, and business objectives.  

Data Sources & Platforms 

Experience with or exposure to the following platforms is preferred: 

  • Circana  
  • Numerator  
  • Shalion  
  • Amazon 
  • Euromonitor  

Additional experience with retailer, commerce, retail media, or syndicated data platforms is a plus. 

Qualifications 

Required 

  • 3 years of experience in analytics, commerce, retail, shopper marketing, category management, market research, or a related field.  
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, formulas, and data manipulation.  
  • Ability to analyze large datasets and identify meaningful trends, opportunities, and business implications.  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time-management abilities.  
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.  

Preferred 

  • Experience working with retailers, commerce agencies, media agencies, or market research organizations.  
  • Familiarity with ecommerce and retail media ecosystems.  
  • Experience creating presentations and communicating insights to stakeholders.  
  • Exposure to data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.  

Success in This Role 

A successful Commerce Data Analyst will: 

  • Turn data into insights rather than simply reporting numbers.  
  • Identify opportunities that help clients grow share, improve performance, and understand their competitive landscape.  
  • Deliver accurate analyses under tight deadlines for both client work and new business opportunities.  
  • Demonstrate curiosity about shopper behavior, retail trends, and the evolving commerce landscape.  
  • Communicate findings in a way that is actionable, concise, and connected to business outcomes.
