What You Will Do
We are seeking an adaptable and experienced Cloud Database Engineer with strong expertise in cloud-hosted database platforms and database-as-a-service. The ideal candidate will have deep experience with open-source database technologies (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, and cloud-native databases) and thrive in a collaborative, peer-driven environment.
This is an opportunity to design, develop, and manage enterprise-level database systems with complex interdependencies, focusing on high availability, clustering, performance, security, and scalability.
This role will be instrumental in modernizing WW’s global data infrastructure, ensuring millions of members have secure and reliable access to personalized experiences.
Responsibilities
- Lead lifecycle management: schema design, migrations, replication, partitioning, upgrades, and DR planning.
- Architect, administer, and optimize high-availability PostgreSQL clusters supporting both OLTP and OLAP workloads.
- Automate processes to improve availability and scalability in production environments.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with application, SRE, and data engineering teams to align platform strategy.
- Support large-scale database instances across production, non-production, and development environments.
- Participate in rotational on-call and maintenance support for database infrastructure.
- Perform regular upgrades, patching, and vulnerability remediation.
- Support database scalability and future growth initiatives.
- Define and enforce best practices around query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning.
- Partner with InfoSec and Compliance teams to ensure security, privacy, and HIPAA/SOC2/GDPR alignment.
Who you are:
- Extensive hands-on experience (8+ years) managing mission-critical production workloads, with deep expertise in PostgreSQL, MySQL and MongoDB.
- Experience participating in or collaborating with distributed on-call teams supporting mission-critical systems (internal or external).
- Expertise in database architecture, design, replication, clustering, HA/DR.
- Strong experience with Linux/Unix environments.
- Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure cloud platforms.
- Proven ability to manage highly available clustered database services across multiple Linux flavors.
- Familiarity with infrastructure automation tools (CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible).
- Knowledge of streaming technologies (Kafka) is preferred.
- Exposure to modern DevOps tooling and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker).
Base salary may vary depending on, but not limited to: skills, experience, and location. This role is also eligible for a comprehensive benefits package and annual bonus program.
US Pay Range
$175,000 - $195,000 USD
