The Role
We are actively seeking a highly skilled full-time Staff Accountant. The ideal individual for this role possesses an inherent curiosity to learn, willingness to collaborate to solve problems, and desire to build tech-forward, scalable solutions that help Wysh achieve its significant growth potential. Demonstrated expertise in accounting and financial reporting is essential. In addition, experience in the life insurance industry, including expertise in STAT (statutory accounting principles) and reporting financial data to the NAIC (National Association of Insurance Commissioners) is preferred, but not required.
This role requires strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to maintaining accurate and compliant financial records. We are specifically seeking an analytical self-starter with the ability to resolve problems independently with skill and tact. Detail and results-oriented, the successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment. This opportunity is perfect for someone seeking the advantages of remote work, while possessing a strong interest in data and automation, significant Excel skills, and experience working with accounting software.
The salary range for this role is $75,000–$80,000, with exact compensation determined by region, years of experience, and specific skill set, using aggregate market data from PayScale.
What you’ll do
Assist the Accounting Manager in execution of core accounting, reporting and treasury functions, including:
- Month-end Close and Reporting, Balance Sheet Reconciliations, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable.
- Prepare statutory financial reports and other filings required by various state insurance departments, NAIC, and management reporting, including preparation of board reports.
- Assist with financial audits.
- Assist with special projects, including reporting automation, reporting, and process enhancement projects, as needed.
- Assist with financial planning which includes forecasting, budgeting and other key financial processes.
- Collaborate with business functions to facilitate effective budget management and ensure that financial organization, systems, and investments appropriately support the company’s growth.
What you’ll bring
Required
- 2+ years of progressive experience in accounting.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
- Intermediate/advanced Excel skills, experience with Google Docs and accounting software.
- Willingness to collaborate to learn the intricacies of the life insurance business and desire to become a true industry expert.
- Ability to explain financial concepts to non-accounting stakeholders through clear written and verbal communication.
- Time management in a deadline-driven close environment with ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Preferred
- CPA and/or Audit experience.
- Strong background in the insurance industry, preferably in life insurance.
- In-depth understanding of statutory accounting principles (STAT) and experience reporting financial data to the NAIC.
- Exposure to automation or process improvement initiatives.
