About the Role

As an Electrical Engineer in Training (EIT) at xAI, you’ll jump into the action supporting the design, evaluation, and upkeep of the electrical systems powering our cutting-edge facilities. Working onsite with seasoned engineers and multidisciplinary teams, you’ll tackle challenges to ensure our power distribution and backup systems are reliable, safe, and scalable. Expect to dive into technical details, learn fast, and contribute to solutions that keep our mission-critical operations humming, all while advancing xAI’s goal of accelerating human scientific discovery through AI.

Responsibilities

Infrastructure Design & Planning

  • Participate in design meetings for electrical systems in new data center builds and expansions, providing input from an electrical engineering perspective under supervision.
  • Assist in conducting feasibility studies and developing specifications for system components.
  • Support the design and construction process, including permitting, under the guidance of licensed engineers.

System Implementation

  • Support the installation of power distribution units (PDUs), UPS systems, cooling units, and other critical infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., Uptime Institute Tier Standards), safety regulations, and company policies, with oversight from senior engineers.

Operations & Maintenance

  • Assist in managing maintenance schedules to ensure electrical systems operate efficiently.
  • Contribute to troubleshooting power issues, helping to minimize downtime and enhance system reliability.

Capacity Management

  • Support analysis and forecasting of power needs based on current and projected IT loads.
  • Assist in implementing strategies for energy efficiency and cost reduction.

Team Interaction

  • Work closely with senior engineers and team members, seeking guidance and contributing to team efforts.
  • Participate in fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning within the team.

Project Coordination

  • Support project management for infrastructure projects, from conception through commissioning, under supervision.
  • Assist in coordinating with external vendors, contractors, and internal departments to meet project timelines.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal regulations concerning electrical systems, under supervision.
  • Promote a safe working environment, adhering to all safety protocols.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification required.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience in data center operations or electrical engineering.
  • Basic knowledge of data center electrical systems (transformers, switchgear, generators, UPS systems)
  • Proficient with tools like AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, SKM
  • Interest in project management and supporting large-scale data center projects.
