About the Role
As the Facilities Operations Lead at xAI Memphis, you will oversee the maintenance and performance of critical data center infrastructure, including power, cooling, and environmental systems. You will lead a team of Facilities Operations Technicians, driving hands-on technical operations, team leadership, process optimization, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure the reliability and efficiency of our data center. This role emphasizes fostering a team-first culture, prioritizing team focus, and promoting a collaborative work environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of Facilities Operations Technicians, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of data center infrastructure, including HVAC, power distribution, and backup systems.
- Develop, implement, and optimize preventive maintenance schedules, equipment calibration, and system performance monitoring.
- Create and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure operational consistency and efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Collaborate with engineering and procurement teams to streamline equipment intake, installation, and maintenance processes.
- Utilize internal applications for inventory and asset management, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting.
- Manage critical equipment maintenance and repairs, ensuring timely resolution and detailed documentation.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to support seamless data center operations.
- Lead initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and minimize downtime.
- Provide on-call support and respond promptly to critical facilities incidents.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related engineering field (relevant experience may substitute for degree).
- 8+ years of experience managing critical facilities systems, including power, cooling, and environmental controls.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems in data centers.
- 8+ years of experience troubleshooting and maintaining critical facilities infrastructure.
- Proficiency with building management systems (BMS) and environmental monitoring tools.
- 5+ years of experience in inventory management, including ordering, receiving, and maintaining facilities equipment.
- Proven leadership experience in critical facilities or technical operations environments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead facilities infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency with hand tools and power tools.
- Strong prioritization and time management skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience programming PLC-based control systems or working with Building Management Systems.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
- EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification (EPA 608 Technician).
Additional Requirements
- Must pass pre-employment and annual post-employment background checks.
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. unassisted.
- Comfortable working at heights up to 50 feet with appropriate safety gear.
- Ability to work in environments with exposure to noise.
- Physical dexterity to perform job functions in confined spaces.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends based on site operational needs; flexibility is required.
- Valid driver’s license.
