About the Role 

As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Commerce Platform team, you will play a crucial role in developing the next-generation digital commerce foundation for a global retail company. We are reimagining our platform from the ground up, moving from monolithic systems to a domain-driven, service-oriented architecture that supports both web and mobile app experiences at scale. 

You will collaborate with engineers and architects across the organization to define and implement the cloud, network, and systems architecture that powers a world-class e-commerce platform — developing microservices, infrastructure as code, and automation frameworks that enable the team to scale while continuing to ship innovative new features. 

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys looking ahead, innovating, and creating tools and patterns that others can build upon. You will also provide guidance to the front-end and mobile teams, ensuring seamless integration between the platform and consumer-facing applications. 

What You’ll Do 

• Design and build domain-driven, service-oriented architecture to power a global commerce platform. 

• Develop cloud-native microservices and infrastructure as code (IaC) to ensure scalability, reliability, and security. 

• Partner with architects and cross-functional teams to define network, cloud, and systems architecture across multiple environments. 

• Lead innovation in tooling, automation, observability, and developer experience to reduce friction and accelerate platform growth. 

• Collaborate with front-end and mobile teams to ensure seamless integration with platform services. 

• Contribute to technical strategy and roadmap, identifying opportunities for improved performance and scalability. 

• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to other engineers, sharing best practices in distributed systems and cloud development. 
• Support technical evaluations of other consultants when required, contributing to the assessment of skills and alignment with project needs. 

What You Bring 

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with expertise in large-scale platforms, distributed systems, or cloud architecture. 

• Hands-on experience programming in Go (Golang) as the primary language; proficiency in additional one of the modern languages such as Java, Node.js, or Python is a plus. 

• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) as the primary cloud provider; familiarity with AWS or Azure is a plus. 

• Experience with Kubernetes (k8s) for container orchestration in production environments. 

• Proficiency with Terraform for infrastructure as code (IaC). 

• Experience with GitHub Actions or equivalent CI/CD pipeline tools for automation at scale. 

• Strong knowledge of microservices, APIs, and event-driven architectures. 

• Proven experience building, deploying, and supporting microservices in rapidly changing environments with a high degree of ambiguity. 

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills; able to influence and guide engineers across teams. 

• Demonstrated ability to innovate, simplify, and solve complex technical challenges. 
• Support technical evaluations of other consultants when required, contributing to the assessment of skills and alignment with project needs 

Nice to have: 

• Familiarity with front-end and mobile integration patterns. 
• Knowledge of e-commerce or retail technology systems.
