Product Manager – Research & Development

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Product Manager to join our Research & Development organisation. In this role, you will serve as a strategic bridge between scientific stakeholders, engineering teams, and business leadership — driving the discovery, development, and delivery of digital products and platforms that accelerate pharmaceutical R&D outcomes. You will be embedded within a cross-functional Agile environment, working closely with data scientists, engineers, and R&D end-users to translate complex scientific and business needs into actionable product roadmaps and high-quality software deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Roadmap

  • Establish, maintain, and communicate a clear product roadmap aligned to R&D strategy and organisational priorities.
  • Gather ideas, pain points, and requirements from end-users, scientists, and business stakeholders through structured discovery sessions.
  • Translate stakeholder needs into well-defined user stories, use cases, and product requirements in line with the product development lifecycle.
  • Own one or more strategic products or manage a portfolio of smaller applications, including modernisation, rationalisation, and sunsetting initiatives.

Requirements & Backlog Management

  • Develop robust product plans with clear user and product requirements; build and manage requirements in Jira.
  • Ensure backlog health through regular grooming, with stories reviewed, estimated, and ready ahead of sprint planning.
  • Document key decisions with rationale, alternatives considered, and stakeholders consulted.
  • Provide product direction for engineering design solutions throughout the development lifecycle.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the primary point of contact for business requests on assigned products, maintaining strong relationships with R&D end-users, business owners, and senior stakeholders.
  • Facilitate regular stakeholder alignment sessions to review priorities, surface trade-offs, and maintain shared understanding of product direction.
  • Conduct and oversee User Acceptance Testing (UAT), acting on feedback prior to product launches.
  • Build user guides and associated documentation; run onboarding workshops for new product releases.

Delivery & Agile Execution

  • Attend and actively contribute to planning sessions, stand-ups, sprint reviews, and Agile ceremonies.
  • Partner with Project Managers and engineering teams to monitor risks, address issues, and resolve blockers to ensure timely feature delivery.
  • Track progress, manage risks and issues, and prepare product status reports and executive-ready presentations.
  • Maintain comprehensive product documentation in Confluence for continuity and operational handoff.

Qualifications

Required

  • 3–5 years of in-role Product Management or Product Owner experience, working directly with end-users and engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering digital products within a pharmaceutical, life sciences, or regulated R&D environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies and software development lifecycle (SDLC) best practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to influence and align diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Jira and Confluence for backlog and requirements management.
  • Experience conducting user research and discovery sessions, and translating findings into actionable product artefacts.
  • Comfortable working across multi-vendor, cross-functional teams in a complex enterprise environment.

Preferred

  • Experience working on data platform products, scientific informatics, or clinical/research technology solutions.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Miro, Figma, Slack, Power BI, and MS 365.
  • Understanding of GxP regulatory considerations and quality documentation standards in a pharma R&D setting.
  • Exposure to AI/ML-powered product features or intelligent automation in product development workflows.
  • Experience managing product portfolio rationalisation or legacy modernisation programmes.

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
