About the Role:
We are seeking a Datacentre Operations Engineer to join our London-based team, with a primary focus on supporting the XTX’s trading infrastructure. This role is designed to enhance our weekend and holiday coverage while expanding the capability and autonomy of the existing DC Ops team.
The successful candidate will work alongside existing engineers to support the physical infrastructure that underpins our trading systems. You will be responsible for deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting hardware and infrastructure globally, working closely with colleagues in Infrastructure, Trading, and third-party vendors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deploy, install, and maintain datacentre hardware, including servers, switches, and structured cabling.
- Provide hands-on support across London-area facilities, and international facilities where necessary, for physical racking, diagnostics, and upgrades.
- Maintain and enhance datacentre standards, including power and cooling capacity, structured cabling, labelling accuracy, and overall cleanliness.
- Support the commissioning and rollout of new rack builds and infrastructure projects.
- Coordinate and liaise with third-party vendors for deliveries, cross-connects, and fault resolution.
- Assist with hardware integration and lifecycle management, including inventory and logistics tracking.
- Participate in the on-call and weekend rota to ensure reliable coverage across operational hours.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Hands-on experience in colocation trading environments and associated infrastructure demands or related infrastructure roles.
- Strong understanding of server architecture and hardware components, such as NICs, FPGAs, SSDs, GPUs, and transceivers.
- Solid knowledge of network cabling standards and best practices.
- Experience with PDU and rack power planning.
- Proven organisational, problem-solving, and workflow planning skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage competing priorities in high-pressure environments.
Desirable:
- Prior experience supporting global infrastructure teams.
- Familiarity with Linux and various network OS’s
- Comfort using collaboration and documentation tools (e.g., JIRA, Asana, Confluence, Excel).
Working Arrangements:
- Based in London, with regular travel to local datacentre sites.
- Participation in the DC Ops rota, including some weekends and holiday shifts (with time off in lieu).
