Position Summary

We are hiring a Senior Azure Cloud Engineer to serve as the senior technical authority for our Azure environment—our largest and most critical cloud footprint. This role sits within the Systems & Networking team, part of the Product Technology Services (PTS) group, and is focused squarely on operations excellence: incident response, systems availability, cost optimization, and process maturity.

You will not be expected to build developer pipelines or own cloud-native platforms, but you will need to understand how engineering teams deploy and run workloads in Azure—so you can help shape resilient infrastructure, operational support models, and the tools and processes required to run systems well at scale.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for driving improvements across infrastructure, collaborating with engineering, security, and DBA teams, and raising the operational maturity of our Azure systems.

Position Details:

  • Salary Range:
  • Location: Boston, MA (preferred), Chicago, IL, Richmond, VA, or Bucharest, Romania
  • Full-time
  • Hybrid - 2-3 days working in the office
  • Reporting to: Manager of Systems Administration

Primary Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical lead and subject matter expert (SME) for Azure infrastructure operations, setting standards and guiding best practices.
  • Design, configure, and maintain Azure Virtual Machines, Virtual Networks, Network Security Groups (NSGs), Application Security Groups (ASGs), and Private Link/Endpoints.
  • Support and optimize Azure SQL Managed Instances and SQL Server on Azure VMs, including indexing, backup/restore, and general database architecture awareness.
  • Manage and improve the resilience, scalability, and availability of Azure-based services and systems.
  • Lead incident response, root cause analysis (RCA), and postmortem documentation for infrastructure-related events.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Security teams to ensure proper access controls, authentication, and authorization mechanisms via Entra ID (Azure ActiveDirectory) and related identity technologies.
  • Improve operational processes and documentation, ensuring repeatability, clarity, and alignment across teams.
  • Monitor and analyze infrastructure costs; identify and implement optimizations to manage consumption efficiently.
  • Mentor other Systems team members and help grow operational cloud fluency across the broader team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of eight years experience building and managing mission-critical systems infrastructure to support business functions
  • Minimum of five years experience working with core infrastructure services including compute, networking, identity management and storage.
  • Minimum of eight years experience working in a SaaS or Service oriented setting, where priorities can sometimes change
  • Experience with incident management, troubleshooting complex issues, and writing postmortems
  • A strong commitment to continuous learning, technological innovation, and career development
  • Strong communicator and collaborator, able to delegate effectively and inspire highly skilled teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience mentoring or leading other engineers in an infrastructure or systems capacity.
  • Familiarity with Zero Trust, cloud compliance standards, and security models in multi-tenant or regulated environments (SOC 2 Type 2, PCI-DSS, NIST).
  • Exposure to cloud-native database platforms (e.g. Snowflake, Synapse); experience with traditional RDBMs is a plus.
  • Experience with SQL (query, index, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of scripting and automation tools such as PowerShell, Python, ARM/Bicep templates and Azure CLI.
  • Experience in a 24/7 SaaS environment where reliability and uptime are core to success.
  • Exposure to other cloud platforms, such as AWS, GCP, OCI, and both public and private cloud environments.

Classification of protected categories is as follows:

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
