Position Summary
As the Director of Platform Technology, you will lead the evolution of our global Platform team and establish two strategic domains of focus: Systems Platform and Data Platform. You will be responsible for shaping the team’s structure, setting technical direction, and driving execution across both domains while maintaining a single, unified Platform team.
The Systems Platform domain is focused on building and managing global infrastructure for CI/CD, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms, serving key stakeholders in Product Engineering, Infrastructure, and Security. The Data Platform domain is focused on building global infrastructure for data architecture and data products, in partnership with Data Engineering, Database Administration, and Security. Both domains will collaborate closely with Enterprise Data & Analytics and Business Intelligence to ensure high-quality data integration into our central systems.
This is a strategic leadership role where you’ll drive the Platform’s growth, align it with business needs, and enable innovation through secure, scalable, and reliable global infrastructure.
Position Details
- Salary range: $150,000/year - $180,000/year
- Location: Chicago IL, Boston MA, Boulder CO, Richmond VA
- Full-time
- Hybrid: 2-3 days per week in office
- Reporting to: Vice President, Technology

Primary Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Vision
- Define and execute the global strategy for both Systems Platform and Data Platform domains, ensuring alignment with business and technology objectives.
- Build and evolve a modern, secure, and scalable technology stack across CI/CD, container orchestration, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise data architecture.
- Partner with senior leadership across Engineering, Data, Infrastructure, and Security to ensure platform initiatives support company-wide objectives.
Systems Platform Domain
- Own strategy and delivery for global CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, containers, and multi-cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, OCI).
- Improve developer productivity, enable secure deployments, and ensure platform reliability and performance.
- Align systems infrastructure with product engineering needs and compliance requirements.
Data Platform Domain
- Build the foundation for data infrastructure and products that scale globally.
- Partner with Data Engineering, DBA and compliance teams to ensure data consistency, reliability, and security.
- Collaborate with the Enterprise Data & Analytics team to integrate business data into centralized systems for analytics and reporting.
People & Organization
- Lead and grow the unified Platform team while defining clear domain ownership.
- Mentor and develop engineers, fostering curiosity, innovation, and excellence.
- Recruit and retain top talent, ensuring the team evolves alongside the platform’s maturity.
Execution & Operations
- Oversee planning, prioritization, and execution across both domains.
- Establish clear success metrics, SLAs, and reporting for platform services.
- Champion Agile and DevOps practices to ensure scalability and continuous improvement.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in a related field or equivalent working experience.
- 10+ years in engineering leadership, with at least 5 years in a senior management or director-level role.
- Proven success leading platform engineering initiatives across both infrastructure and data domains.
- Strong familiarity with Agile, DevOps, and modern cloud/data architectures.
- Strong ability to architect distributed systems, focusing on performance, resilience, and cost optimization.
- Track record of building high-performing engineering teams through mentorship, technical growth frameworks, and career pathing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep understanding of cloud platforms (OCI, Azure, or AWS), including compute, storage, networking, and identity management.
- Experience building and evolving platform services — developer tooling, CI/CD pipelines, observability frameworks, and internal APIs.
- Proven ability to align platform investments with business goals and product roadmap; experience defining KPIs for platform success.
- Familiarity with cloud security best practices, identity and access management, and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, etc.)
- Experience managing cloud partnerships, SaaS tooling evaluations, and enterprise integrations.
- Experience in data-intensive or real-time SaaS products, or within energy, analytics, or fintech verticals.
- Familiarity with event streaming (Kafka, Kinesis), data warehousing (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift), and data governance principles.
- Strong technical background in cloud-native platforms, CI/CD, Kubernetes, and enterprise data systems.
- Customer- and developer-centric mindset with focus on platform-as-a-product principles.
