Databases are a core technology underlying the Yext platform, and we are seeking a highly motivated database administrator/engineer to play a key role in scaling our database environment to meet the demands of our rapid growth.

As a Database Reliability Engineer at Yext, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and maintain robust and scalable database systems. You'll be responsible for enhancing our database infrastructure's reliability, performance, and scalability, ensuring our systems can handle increasing volumes of data and traffic efficiently.

What You'll Do

  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: Automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery pipelines, and re-architecting infrastructure for greater scalability and performance.
  • Perform database installation and upgrades in development and production environments, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum reliability.
  • Develop and improve backup and recovery automation to ensure consistent database availability and minimal data loss in the event of failure.
  • Develop proactive database maintenance plans, including index optimization, query tuning, and performance enhancements.
  • Monitor database health and respond to alerts proactively, ensuring system reliability and stability.
  • Troubleshoot database issues across development and production environments, working closely with engineering teams to resolve performance bottlenecks and outages.
  • Assist in refining physical database designs to meet system storage and performance requirements as the platform grows.
  • Design and develop database structures that fit seamlessly into the more extensive architecture of the developed system, ensuring long-term scalability and maintainability.
  • Create and maintain clear and detailed documentation for database structures, configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with DevOps, development, and infrastructure teams to align database strategies with broader system goals and performance objectives.
  • Automate the entire database lifecycle: From provisioning and configuration to day-to-day operations, you’ll automate the setup, monitoring, backups, performance tuning, scaling, and patching of database systems to ensure consistency, reliability, and minimal manual intervention.
  • Drive infrastructure as code (IaC): Leverage tools like Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation to automate database infrastructure management, enabling repeatable, version-controlled, scalable deployments.
  • Optimize and automate database operations: Build automation for monitoring, alerting, performance tuning, and scaling to proactively address issues and enhance the database’s performance with minimal manual intervention.

What You Have

  • A relentless passion for learning and staying up-to-date with emerging database technologies.
  • Extensive experience in developing and administering relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar).
  • Hands-on experience installing, configuring, and maintaining relational databases in development and production environments.
  • Strong experience with database monitoring and diagnostics, including identifying and addressing performance bottlenecks.
  • A solid understanding of database security, authentication, and permissions to ensure secure and compliant environments.
  • Familiarity with database replication, backup, and restore techniques to ensure high availability and disaster recovery.
  • Linux administration experience, including scripting (bash/python) for automation and system management.
  • Experience using source control tools like Git and Gerrit to manage configuration changes and collaborate with engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with automation tools like Ansible and Terraform to manage infrastructure as code and automate repetitive tasks.
  • Solid understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) concepts and their application to database environments for consistency and scalability.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, TeamCity, etc.) and integrating database changes into a continuous delivery pipeline.
  • Some knowledge of programming languages like Java, Go, Ruby, or C, enabling better collaboration with development teams and understanding of application-level requirements.
  • Cloud platform experience, particularly with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Amazon Web Services (AWS) and their database offerings (e.g., Cloud SQL, RDS etc).

Why You’ll Love It Here

  • Impact: Your work will directly contribute to the performance and reliability of our platform, supporting millions of queries per second.
  • Growth: You'll be part of a rapidly growing infrastructure team, and your contributions will help shape the future of Yext’s database infrastructure.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
