Director, Corporate and Fund Tax

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Corporate and Fund Tax Director to join our dynamic finance team and help lead our tax function. The role will report to our Chief Financial Officer. In this role, you will oversee all aspects of tax planning, compliance, and reporting. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in tax regulations, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to manage multiple tax-related projects while ensuring adherence to applicable laws and regulations.

You’ll also have the opportunity to work cross-functionally and in close collaboration with company executive leadership, seasoned investment professionals and business operations teams.

This role will be based out of the NYC office and requires being located within a commutable distance. You should expect to be in the office 3 days per week.

Responsibilities:

1. Tax Compliance:

  • Review investor tax allocations for fund partnerships and related tax filings (i.e., Federal 1065’s, state tax returns, and K-1’s)
  • Manage all tax compliance and reporting, including corporate income tax, sales tax, and other applicable tax filings including commercial rent tax returns
  • Oversee all REIT and RIC related tax compliance
  • Prepare and review tax provisions and related financial statement disclosures in accordance with ASC 740
  • Handle/oversee compliance with all federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations

2. Tax Planning and Strategy:

  • Develop and implement tax planning strategies to optimize the company's tax position and minimize tax liabilities
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in tax laws and regulations, assessing their impact on the organization and recommending appropriate tax strategies
  • Provide tax guidance and support to internal stakeholders on various business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, restructuring, and other strategic initiatives
  • Conduct research on complex tax issues and emerging tax laws to ensure compliance and identify potential tax-saving opportunities

3. Team Management and Leadership:

  • Supervise and mentor a team of tax professionals, providing guidance and support in their professional development
  • Work in collaboration with a variety of external 3rd party tax advisors
  • Set performance goals and objectives for the tax team, conducting regular performance evaluations
  • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment within the tax department

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and CPA license is required (Master’s degree in Accounting and/or Taxation preferred)
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in financial services, specifically private equity and private credit
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations
  • Experience in ASC 740
  • Strong understanding of tax planning strategies and their application to business transactions
  • Proficiency in tax compliance software and accounting systems, such as Advent Geneva/World Investor
  • Leadership - ability to develop and implement strategies to maximize employee performance and foster high standards, act as a role model and in the best interests of the team, firm and clients 
  • Problem Solving - ability to identify the cause and effects of issues and analyze existing and external information to come up with appropriate solutions
  • Planning/Organizing - prioritize and plan work activities for self and team proactively, use time efficiently, and maintain a high level of organization
  • Diligence and Attention to Detail - demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; monitor own work to ensure quality control of all work products of self and others 
  • Communication - speak clearly and professionally, create polished and complete documents, ensure top quality work product, and present data effectively 
  • Results Oriented - understand and analyze work product, apply critical thinking to ensure accuracy and high quality of deliverables, willingness to analyze, innovate and improve workflow processes

Compensation:

  • HIRING SALARY RANGE: $200,000 + (Actual salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) Compensation package also includes generous, bonus, benefits and equity.
