Team

Our recently established European team is expanding to handle our growing European customer base and strong pipeline of prospective customers. Specialising in acquiring new customers, making them successful and growing the European business this team now wishes to add an additional pre-sales Solutions Engineer. 

Role
The objective of this role at Yugabyte is to work closely with prospective customers in EMEA from the initial first meeting, through technical evaluations, achieving a technical win, and then with the Yugabyte post-sales consulting team to begin deployment.

The customer should be confident that YugabyteDB is the correct choice for their needs, which means working with several stakeholders and teams within the customer organization, including: senior management, project management, infrastructure, dbas, and application development - each will have their own specific areas of concern and interest.

This means you will need the ability to articulate the YugabyteDB value proposition in multiple forms, addressing the concerns of each team, and understanding the technical language they use and the ecosystem in which they operate.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver technical and value proposition presentations to various stakeholders
  • Deliver and build demonstrations to various stakeholders
  • Consulting with customer on their specific challenges
  • Dig into what the customer needs to achieve, and what happens if they don’t
  • Be a knowledgeable and trusted adviser
  • Be the main point of contact for the customer in the broader Yugabyte organisation
  • Maintain and broaden the network of contacts within the customer organisation
  • Respond to technical RFIs, RFPs and evaluation questionnaires
  • Lay landmines against competitive solutions
  • Develop reusable materials for articulating the Yugabyte value proposition at both technical and business levels
  • Drive evaluations and proof of concepts to a successful conclusion
  • You should expect to travel occasionally (typically 1-3 days per month) for customer meetings across Europe, although most meetings are now generally held via zoom.
  • Advise users and customers on a wide range of topics such as app architecture, deployment paradigms, ecosystem integration best practices and more in order to make optimal use of YugaByteDB.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a pre-sales consulting role backed up by a degree in a STEM subject.
  • Strong presentation and authoring skills, great communication
  • Sales awareness
    • Ability to persuade the customer of the value of the YugabyteDB solution
    • Ability to discover and validate the customers technical evaluation process
    • Technically qualify customer requirements to ensure Yugabyte can successfully meet them
    • Confidence to qualify out when appropriate
  • A strong background in databases and related technologies
    • PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, SQLServer
    • Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL
    • ORMs and development frameworks
    • The ability to analyze and tune SQL queries.
  • Hands-on experience with modern public cloud infrastructure and other cloud native technologies such as
    • Cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
    • Openshift, Kubernetes, docker
    • Monitoring and logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog)
    • Security (TLS, SSL)

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of the distributed relational databases market (e.g.Cockroach and Spanner)
  • Knowledge of Cassandra 
  • An understanding of the options and limitations of how traditional databases can be scaled for high throughput
  • An understanding of the options and limitations of traditional database HA and resilience mechanisms.
