Your Impact:
The VP Legal will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, providing strategic legal counsel and guidance to the organization. This role involves overseeing all legal matters, ensuring compliance, and mitigating legal risks. The VP Legal will work closely with various departments to support business objectives and protect the company's interests.
You Will:
- Provide expert legal advice and support to senior management on a wide range of legal issues, including corporate governance, contracts, intellectual property, privacy, cybersecurity, partnerships, marketing and employment
- Develop and implement legal strategies and policies that align with business objectives, and identify, assess and mitigate legal risks
- Manage and oversee all cross-jurisdictional legal matters, including litigation, negotiations, and transactions
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, including customer, vendor and partner agreements
- Stay up-to-date on legal developments and industry trends, and provide updates to the executive team.
- Represent Yugabyte in legal proceedings and negotiations
- Oversee corporate governance and administration for Yugabyte and its subsidiaries
- Provide guidance on employee relations issues, including employment documents, disciplinary actions, benefits, policy compliance and any employment related claims
- Assist with legal aspects of company’s equity plan
- Contribute to Board of Directors materials and meetings
- Support strategic initiatives such as fundraising and M&A transactions
- Collaborate with external legal counsel as needed
You’ll Need:
- JD/U.S. law degree and bar admission in California
- 15+ years combined law firm and/or in-house legal experience, preferably in a database company
- Proven experience in providing strategic legal counsel to executive leadership
- Strong understanding of a wide range of legal areas including corporate law, commercial law and negotiations, intellectual property, privacy, cybersecurity, partnerships, marketing and employment law
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to work with cross-functional stakeholders across the company
- Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide practical solutions, assess and balance risk on behalf of company
- Excellent problem solving, project management, attention to detail, interpersonal and organizational skills
We feel strongly about equal pay for equal work, and transparency in compensation is one way to help achieve that. The cash compensation for this role is market competitive, with a range of $275,000-$310,000, as well as equity (when applicable), and benefits including health plans, retirement plans, and unlimited paid time off (PTO). Some roles also include variable/incentive compensation, or a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure. The pay range for this position is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. The actual pay will vary based on factors including experience, qualifications, and skill level.
