About the Role

Yugabyte is looking for a Lead IT Architect who is passionate about designing and implementing complex solutions, managing complex projects, and mentoring a growing international team of IT professionals! Reporting directly to YugabyteDB’s CISO, this person will be a part of YugabyteDB’s IT team and work closely with Yugabyte’s Security Team as well as other leaders from various sectors of Yugabyte to maintain, expand, and evolve our IT infrastructure, implement new technology, and support our compliance efforts.

The Lead IT Architect position is a leadership role and you’ll be expected to act in a capacity to provide second-level support and mentorship to other IT professionals within the team. The ideal candidate is responsible, dependable, technical, a leader, and willing to learn new skills and enjoys laying the foundation to scale an organization’s IT needs in a fast growing environment.

Role and Responsibilities

    • Architecture
      • Okta: YugabyteDB leverages Okta for SSO/SCIM and we also leverage Okta Workflows. You’ll be responsible for reviewing our Okta implementations, making recommendations, and as part of a team, implement recommendations and enhancements to our Okta service.
      • MDM: Review our JAMF and JumpCloud implementations and evolve these services to continually include best practices both from an IT and security perspective.
      • Employee Status Change Management: We have a sophisticated process which includes the use of Oka Workflows and Jira automations in place to automate the onboarding, offboarding, and changes to an employee’s employment status. You’ll be expected to review the process end-to-end, working with our HR department to enhance the workflows as needed, taking care to ensure the process is robust.
      • AWS/Azure/GCP Administration: Our IT team is responsible for managing our AWS, Azure, and GCP accounts from a procurement standpoint. Your primary duties in AWS/Azure/GCP will be largely access control related and managing custom workflows YugabyteDB has in place to manage access control mechanisms.
      • New Solutions: YugabyteDB is a fast growing company and resultantly you’ll be expected to learn new technologies, architect new solutions, and collaborate with other IT members on implementation.
    • Additional Responsibilities. 
      • Information Security: You will be working in tandem with Yugabyte’s Information Security team to protect the company’s infrastructure. A demonstrable understanding of security will be crucial in making good decisions related to infrastructure and access control.
      • Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborative with multi-functional Yugabyte teams including DevOps, Information Security, Finance, Cloud Operations, and Software Engineering to assist with IT-based solutions to support the business objectives.
      • Compliance: YugabyteDB has obtained ISO 27001, ISO 9001, and ISO 22301 certification, SOC 1 Type 2 and SOC 2 Type 2 attestations, and PCI DSS Level 1 Compliance. One of your responsibilities is to ensure that our IT services are compliant with our security program and to help ensure that all Yugabyte IT processes meet our security and privacy requirements and controls, including assisting with risk assessments and compliance efforts. You will be expected to meet with external auditors as needed to go over our IT processes and provide evidence as needed to our auditors.
    • General IT Administration
      • Office Network Administration: Oversee onsite office technology management and maintenance with respect to conference/meetings tools; IT support for day-to-day operations, onsite equipment and software trouble-shooting; office network administration, etc.
      • Administration of third party IT providers: Upgrading, installing, and configuring new hardware and software to meet company needs.
      • Endpoint infrastructure administration: Coordinate the management of all of our endpoints. This includes assessment, selection, and maintenance of hardware, antivirus, MDM (i.e. Jumpcloud, JAMF) and laptop management software, OS patching (i.e. Windows, Mac, Linux) , software installation, etc.
      • Domain infrastructure management: Maintain all company domain names.
      • Assist in protecting the company’s infrastructure: Work with our Information Security team to help carry out policies and protect the business’ technology resources.
      • Procurement of IT equipment: source vendors, purchase equipment (e.g. computers, computer/home office accessories, software tools).
      • Help Desk: Aid other IT staff with helpdesk duties and act as an escalation point for other IT professionals on complex issues.
    • Project Management & Planning
      • Strategic Planning: Craft and maintain a strategic plan for our IT system landscape with multi-functional partners, including assisting with the decisions on new solutions as well as working to consolidate redundant solutions.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor degree in a related field required.
  • Working experience of managing office networks.
  • Senior-level knowledge of AWS, Azure, and/or GCP access control mechanisms. 
  • Mid-level to senior-level knowledge of general administration of AWS, Azure, and/or GCP;  having experience in all 3 is a plus but not required.
  • 5 years of experience or more in a senior IT role.
  • Expertise in managing Mac, Windows and/or Linux workstations.
  • Senior-level skillset managing a corporate Google workspace or Microsoft Office 365 environment. 
  • Working knowledge of provisioning users, applying network security rules, and integrating corporate processes like Okta authentication with at least one of the following cloud service provider environments: Microsoft Azure, Google GCP, and Amazon AWS.
  • Mid-to-Senior level skill set in information security as it applies to hardening and securing corporate assets.
  • Experience with Okta IdP administration 
  • Okta Workflows, Jira Forms and Automation, or similar expert-level scripting and automation experience required.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Minimal domestic travel required (under 2 weeks annually).

Compensation and Benefits
We are committed to the principle of equal pay for equal work. The cash compensation for this role is market-competitive, ranging from $140,000 to $170,000. Additional benefits include equity options, comprehensive health plans, retirement benefits, and unlimited paid time off (PTO).
