DESCRIPTION:

The Controller plays a pivotal role in the financial operations of decentralized AI, combining advanced accounting expertise with treasury management responsibilities. Reporting to the COO, this role ensures the integrity of financial reporting, efficient cash management, and alignment of financial processes with strategic goals.

This position will oversee a Senior Accounting Analyst and work closely with leadership to support day-to-day financial operations, optimize liquidity, and contribute to the growth of our innovative decentralized AI initiatives. Responsibilities include all accounting functions, internal controls and timely and accurate reporting for all financial matters. A self-starting accountant, with experience to help build out the overall accounting, reporting and treasury functions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accounting Operations

  • Oversee and participate in day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in:
    • Accounts Payable (AP): Review, approve, and ensure timely booking and payment of bills.
    • Accounts Receivable (AR): Track and ensure accurate recording of cash receipts.
    • Employee expense reimbursements and corporate card transactions, including review, approval, and monthly reconciliation.
  • Perform and supervise:
    • Monthly bank reconciliations, payroll and credit card reconciliations.
    • Fixed asset schedule maintenance and depreciation booking.
    • Prepaid expense schedule maintenance and amortization.
    • Accrued income and expense calculations and recordings.
  • Oversee custody, reconciliation, and accounting for crypto assets, ensuring robust controls and accurate reporting to ensure the safekeeping of cash and crypto assets.
  • Manage journal entries, invoices etc. and reconcile accounts for the month-end close.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets or forecasts.

Treasury Management

  • Manage daily cash flow and liquidity for operational needs.
  • Prepare and oversee cash flow forecasts, aligning liquidity strategies with organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with the COO and leadership on treasury strategies, including investments and custody arrangements for crypto assets.

Financial Reporting, Audit and Compliance

  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, integrating accounting for crypto transactions.
  • File tax forms, including 1099s, and ensure compliance with year-end reporting requirements.
  • Develop, monitor and enforce internal controls to protect assets and to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Provide support for external audits, including preparation of documentation and schedules for external auditors.
  • Research and document accounting policies and procedures on complex emerging accounting matters to ensure adherence to GAAP.
  • Assist in recording and categorizing financial transactions, including intercompany, fixed assets, investments, expenses, and revenue, in the accounting system.

 Leadership and Oversight

  • Supervise and mentor the accounting team, fostering professional development and ensuring high-quality outputs.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for cross-functional teams and the parent company finance team to ensure alignment on financial and operational initiatives.
  • Balance hands-on accounting tasks with strategic leadership responsibilities, effectively managing priorities.

 Process Improvement

  • Identify and implement opportunities to enhance accounting and treasury processes for efficiency and scalability.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for accounting policies, procedures, and crypto asset custody protocols.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA required.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or leadership roles, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with treasury functions, including cash flow forecasting and liquidity management.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and tools; ERP system experience is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and treasury management principles.
  • Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
  • Savy technology skills with the ability to understand the flow of financial information through systems and the ability to apply technology to improve processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Clear and effective documentation and communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with innovative industries such as blockchain, AI, or technology startups or in the financial services industry, is a plus.
  • Experience working in a high-growth startup or fast-paced, ambiguous environments is preferred.

The salary range for this role is $175,000-$250,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This range only includes base compensation and does not include other tangible benefits such as 401K match, bonuses, overtime pay, and other benefits.
