Position Overview

We seek a highly motivated and skilled Network and Systems Administrator to join our dynamic IT team. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting in maintaining the overall health and performance of our systems and networks; scheduling, implementing, and monitoring systems, and providing security measures to protect our organization's valuable digital assets. Additionally, you will provide valuable support to our Helpdesk as a Level 1 and 2 engineer and contribute as a team member to both squad and capital projects. 

An ideal candidate will be proficient with multiple operating systems, onPrem, SaaS and Cloud in a fast-paced, startup environment in the technology sector.  This position requires five days on-site in our production facility in Novato, CA Monday through Friday and rotating on-call weekends.


Responsibilities:

System Administration:

  • Design and implement complex network architectures, including VLANs, subnets, and VPNs, to optimize security and performance.
  • Develop and execute automation scripts using tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef to streamline system administration tasks and ensure consistent configurations across multiple environments.
  • Conduct in-depth security audits and implement advanced security measures, including intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), multi-factor authentication (MFA), and regular vulnerability assessments.
  • Lead and manage large-scale IT projects, such as data center migrations, cloud integration, and infrastructure upgrades, ensuring minimal downtime and seamless transition

Networking

  • Design and manage advanced network topologies, including software-defined networking (SDN), to improve scalability, flexibility, and manageability of network resources.
  • Implement and optimize network security protocols and technologies, such as Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW), secure access service edge (SASE), and zero-trust network architecture (ZTNA), to protect against sophisticated cyber threats.
  • Perform detailed network traffic analysis using tools like Wireshark and network performance monitoring systems to identify, diagnose, and resolve complex network issues and optimize network performance.
  • Plan, deploy, and manage high-availability network infrastructure, including load balancers, failover systems, and redundant connections, to ensure continuous network uptime and reliability

Information Security:

  • Architect and deploy advanced security frameworks, including zero-trust architecture, to secure enterprise IT environments and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Conduct comprehensive threat hunting and intelligence analysis using advanced tools and techniques, such as machine learning-based anomaly detection, to proactively identify and mitigate potential security threats.
  • Lead incident response and digital forensics investigations, utilizing sophisticated methodologies to analyze attack vectors, contain breaches, and implement post-incident remediation measures.
  • Develop and oversee a robust security awareness training program, ensuring that all employees are educated on the latest security practices, social engineering threats, and organizational security policies

Cybersecurity Telemetry Analysis:

  • Monitor and review cybersecurity telemetry data from various sources.
  • Identify potential malicious activity and security threats.
  • Respond to security incidents in collaboration with the IT Operations team.
  • Implement appropriate security measures to mitigate risks.

Helpdesk Support (Level 1 & 2):

  • Provide technical assistance to end-users via phone, email, and ticketing systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Escalate complex issues to higher-level support when necessary.
  • Document and track all support requests and resolutions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a similar field
  • Proficiency with multiple operating systems (Windows, Linux, etc.).
  • Competent in Windows OS, Windows Server OS, MAC OSX, Linux, VMWare, Hyper-V, Fusion, Cisco, Fortinet, and  Meraki
  • 5+ years experience as a System Administrator or equivalent Security Systems
  • Experience providing technical support in a helpdesk environment.
  • Strong understanding of networking and security concepts and protocols.
  • Familiarity with various security software and technologies.
  • Solid understanding of server and systems management
  • System Security – AV and or comparable proven techniques
  • Excellent problem-solving, teamwork, documentation, troubleshooting, networking and communication skills
  • Security Awareness Training, KnowBe4
  • Single Sign-on and Multi-Factor Authentication 
  • Data Classification and Data Labeling, DLP 
  • SIEM, Indexing and Parsers, GitHub Integrations
  • Security Incident testing and Security exercises
  • MDM and Endpoint Protection
  • NextGen Firewall and Antivirus
  • Linux and Windows and cloud administration experience.
  • Role-based Access Control
  • Change management and Ticketing experience, JIRA experience 
  • Understanding and Respect for Inclusion, Diversity and Belonging

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with penetration testing and vulnerability assessment tools.
  • Palo Alto, Cisco or Fortinet certifications:  PCCET, PCNSE, PCCSE, PCSAE, PCDRA, CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, NSE, FSVP or FCP
  • Centralized password management, ex 1password, LastPass

Compensation

In addition to other forms of compensation like perks and benefits, the estimated range for this role is $108,864 - 136,291. The final offer will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skill set, experience, geographical location, market conditions, and other organizational needs. The Company reserves the right to change, modify, or revisit the salary range for various reasons including business needs.
