
Senior Legal Counsel II (9 Month FTC)
- 9 months fixed-term contract role working across the full lifecycle of Zip’s financial services products

You will join Zip’s ANZ Legal Team, a trusted group of advisors who partner closely with the business to enable growth while protecting customers and the company. Working under the guidance of the General Counsel, ANZ, the team provides practical, solution focused legal advice across Zip’s products, operations and strategic initiatives.
As Senior Legal Counsel on a 9 month fixed term contract, you will support the full lifecycle of Zip’s financial services products. This role offers broad exposure across consumer finance regulation, transactional legal work and disputes, making it well suited to a senior lawyer who enjoys variety, ownership and working at pace in a customer first fintech environment.
What you’ll own
- Partnering with ANZ business teams to provide legal advice across products, operations and strategic initiatives under the guidance of the General Counsel, ANZ
- Providing end to end legal support across consumer finance, regulatory and commercial matters
- Advising on regulatory requirements impacting Zip’s ANZ business, including consumer credit, financial services and licensing, privacy, AML and payments related obligations
- Supporting disputes, complaints, litigation and remediation activities, including engagement with regulators, external counsel and internal stakeholders
- Reviewing, drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements, including merchant, partnership, marketing, promotions, NDAs and service provider arrangements
- Managing relationships with external law firms to ensure timely, high quality and cost effective outcomes
- Providing pragmatic, solutions focused advice that supports a fast growing, regulated fintech
- Contributing to a strong risk aware and customer first culture across the business
What you’ll bring to the team
- More than 10 years post qualification legal experience gained in a top tier law firm and or in house role, ideally within financial services or a regulated environment
- Strong experience or demonstrated capability across disputes and litigation management
- Deep understanding of consumer finance regulation and the ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical advice
- Proven ability to work autonomously, prioritise effectively and deliver clear legal guidance in a fast paced environment
- Confident communication and stakeholder management skills, with a collaborative and solutions focused approach
- A mindset that embraces AI and new tools to adapt, learn and grow.
