We are seeking an Integration Engineer III/IV to join our flight test group in San Luis Obispo, CA. In this role, you will support the integration, testing, and bring-up of our Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UASs). This role requires a strong technical background in software and electrical engineering to diagnose and resolve system issues during development and UAS qualification to ready those systems for flight testing. The ideal candidate will have experience in electrical system integration, testing, and debugging across software, hardware, and embedded systems.
Responsibilities:
- Support UAV system bring-up, integration, and testing activities.
- Troubleshoot and debug software and electrical system issues during UAV development.
- Work closely with software, electrical, and mechanical engineers to ensure seamless integration of subsystems.
- Develop and execute test plans for UAV system validation, including hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) and flight tests.
- Design and implement test setups to validate electrical and software components.
- Analyze system performance and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Support firmware and embedded system debugging, communication protocols, and sensor integration.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve integration challenges and optimize system reliability.
- Document test results, system configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong background in software and electrical engineering for embedded systems.
- Experience with debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters.
- Proficiency in software debugging techniques, including working with C/C++, Python, and embedded firmware.
- Hands-on experience with UAV avionics, sensors, and communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet).
- Knowledge of electrical system integration and test methodologies.
- Familiarity with autopilot systems such as PX4 or Ardupilot is a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and solve complex integration issues efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with RF communication systems, GPS, and IMUs.
- Understanding of power systems and battery management for UAVs.
- Experience with scripting and automation for testing (e.g., Python, MATLAB).
- Knowledge of safety and reliability considerations in UAV development.
Pay range for this role
$120,000 - $170,000 USD
