CNC Setup/Operator (Swing Shift)

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CNC Setup/Operator to join our Production team. Our machine shop is responsible for prototyping and production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to ensure their optimal performance and safety. This role involves working closely with engineers, CAM programmers, and operations teams to support various UAV missions.
This full-time role is offered as a swing shift, 4/10 schedule, M-Th 4pm-2:30am.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and work from detailed technical blueprints and engineering drawings
- Set up and operate multi-axis CNC milling machines, including 3-axis and 3+2 axis configurations
- Install and align workholding and fixtures according to setup documentation
- Execute, test, and verify new CNC programs, making on-the-fly adjustments as needed
- Troubleshoot machining issues and perform minor program or offset changes
- Conduct in-process and final quality inspections to verify part specifications
- Maintain and clean CNC equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity
- Document setup procedures and contribute to process standardization
- Collaborate with engineers and programmers to optimize machining strategies
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, cycle time, and tooling efficiency
- Assist with training junior machinists or apprentices as needed
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, following all safety and 5S standards
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in CNC machine setup and operation
- Strong knowledge of G-code and M-code
- Hands-on experience with 3-axis and 3+2 axis milling processes
- Proficiency with controls such as Haas, Siemens, or Heidenhain
- Solid understanding of multi-axis machining fundamentals
- Familiarity with a wide range of materials, including metals, alloys, and plastics
- Intermediate knowledge of tooling, workholding, and fixturing techniques
- Working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
- Ability to independently manage the machining process from setup to final inspection
- Comfortable switching between prototype/R&D work and short-run production
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment
- Prior involvement in aerospace, defense, or medical device manufacturing
- Familiarity with CAM software (e.g., Hypermill, Hsmworks,Esprit)
- Understanding of ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality management systems
- Exposure to lean manufacturing practices and continuous improvement methods
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a proactive problem-solving mindset
Pay range for this role
$60,000 - $100,000 USD
