Role
We are looking for a Senior AI-Native Designer & Builder, Design System to join our team. This is a Hybrid (3 days/week, Santa Clara HQ) role, reporting to the Sr Manager, Design System in the Product Management department. The Senior AI-Native Designer and Builder for the Design System will participate in the evolution of the organization’s design ecosystem, ensuring consistency, scalability, and excellence across all products. You will be leveraging cutting edge tools & technologies to design, build and iterate at a fast pace. You design with intention, and use AI as a daily craft instrument, not an occasional shortcut. You'll work closely with Design, Engineering, and cross-functional product teams to set the visual, interaction, and structural standard for Zscaler's product surfaces. If you believe great design systems are the highest-leverage work a designer can ship, and that AI is fundamentally changing how we build and maintain them, we want to talk to you!

What you’ll do (Role Expectations)

  • Design, architect, and refine reusable components and interaction patterns, focusing on robust structural relationships, and scalability
  • Write clear component specifications, usage guidelines, and standards, leveraging AI to speed up drafting and maintain comprehensive documentation
  • Utilize modern, AI-powered developer and design tools (e.g., Cursor, Devin, Claude) to build live prototypes, validate architectural feasibility, and accelerate production implementation
  • Partner directly with UI engineers to align design intent with web technologies, ensuring component structures are highly responsive, accessible, and easily consumable
  • Actively support product design teams during their adoption of the design system, assisting them in applying component architecture principles and troubleshooting complex layouts

Who You Are (Success Profile)

  • You act like an owner. Your passion for the mission fuels your bias for action. You operate with integrity because you genuinely care about the outcome. You adapt to what’s needed, navigating seamlessly between high-level strategy and hands-on execution.
  • You are a problem-solver. You seek out challenges because you are energized by finding solutions, knowing that solving the hard problems delivers the biggest impact.
  • You are a high-trust collaborator. You embrace our challenge culture by giving and receiving ongoing feedback—knowing that candor delivered with clarity and respect is the truest form of teamwork and the fastest way to earn trust.
  • You are driven by innovation. You have a deep curiosity for how things work and are energized by solving complex technical challenges. You believe in the power of technology to accelerate transformation and are always looking for a better, more secure, and scalable way.
  • You champion simplicity. You are skilled at distilling complex problems, user needs, and technical concepts into clear, simple, and actionable plans. You are a precise communicator who brings clarity and focus to every interaction.

What We’re Looking for (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Proven experience integrating AI assistants or modern generation/prototyping tools into your daily design and development workflow to accelerate outcomes and build interactive layouts
  • 6+ years of Product/UX Design experience, with at least 1–2 years of dedicated contribution to a multi-product design system
  • Demonstrated expertise in systematic component architecture, understanding how individual components roll up into larger patterns, templates, and full applications
  • Familiarity with accessibility frameworks (such as WCAG 2.1/2.2 standards) and designing with structural layouts built for responsiveness
  • Strong collaborative skills, with experience educating and guiding other designers on how to build within systematic guidelines and structured grids

What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Proven ability to leverage AI technologies and workflows to drive measurable operational efficiency
  • Literacy in modern frontend technologies (e.g., React, CSS/HTML, token-driven theming, or JSON properties), enabling you to inspect and discuss code structures directly with developers
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude) to generate, customize, or preview coded components, bringing designs closer to working code
  • Experience designing systems for cyber security, infrastructure, developer tools, or other highly technical/complex domains
