Position Overview:
The Technical Art Intern will be responsible for art implementation, art optimization, and tools development for Game of Thrones: Slots Casino. They will bridge the gap between the Art and Engineering teams, helping the Art team fully realize their vision!
What You'll Do:
- Work closely with the Art, Engineering, and Design teams to plan and construct game assets in Unity
- Complete high quality art implementation in Unity, balancing the needs for beautiful gameplay and optimal performance on device.
- Work effectively to tackle any art-related bugs.
- Develop tools to improve efficiency for the Animation and Tech Art teams.
- Develop shaders in Cg/HLSL to unlock new mobile friendly visual FX.
- Help keep the app’s art assets clean and efficient.
What You Bring:
This Technical Art summer internship is for new graduates who will have graduated from a US college or university between June 2024 to June 2025. This role is connected to Zynga’s Chicago office.
- Interest in both the technical and artistic aspects of game development
- Keen to help artists get their work into the game, making their vision come to life
- Passion for being challenged with technically difficult tasks
- Understanding of at least one high level programming language like Python, C#, or Cg / HLSL
- Familiarity with Unity
- Coursework showing a curiosity about art and / or art history
- A simple portfolio would be appreciated
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Confidence in communicating with artists and engineers about their disciplines, being able to flex your communication style across different team members
- In this role you will be learning to coordinate needs and expectations of both engineers and artists
Bonus Points:
- Knowledge of gameplay implementation
- Games made as home / side projects highly valued!
- Knowledge of Unity’s UI system (UGUI)
- Shader knowledge: Node-based or hand coded
- Exposure to source control, such as Git and Perforce
