Position Overview:

We are looking for a curious, enthusiastic and talented intern to join Words With Friends engineering team. Engineering Intern works on the live game and are responsible for building new features, UI, tools, systems, etc. for millions of users who play our game daily.  You will have the opportunity to learn new skills/technology while you collaborate with some of the best talents in the gaming industry. The challenging and creative work you do throughout your internship will directly impact how our players engage with the game.

What You'll Do: 

  • You will be developing primarily in C#/.NET based technology stack. You will work together with team members and jointly own the success of the features throughout the entire development pipeline. Stages include Design -> Architecture -> Development -> Testing -> Production Ramp. 

Key responsibilities

  • Build new games and features seen by millions of players on Mobile and Web platforms.
  • Work on various app components from gameplay to networking to tools.
  • Brainstorm new ideas for features and tools with the team.
  • Work on optimizing backend systems to ensure we are performant with regards to client and infrastructure tech budgets.
  • Work with an agile team of other developers, artists and product managers in a fast paced environment.
  • Learn the latest game dev technologies and best practices by closely working with your own mentor.

What You Bring: 

  • Prior development experience working in Ruby on Rails or C# and .Net framework.
  • Familiarity with Android or iOS or Web platforms.
  • Good understanding of developing APIs and server-client contracts. 
  • Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented software design.
  • Experience with source control and versioning (Git preferred). 
  • Understanding of concepts such as networking, data transfer strategies like Protobuf and JSON, Storage solutions like databases and caches etc.
  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving requirements and new technology changes.
  • Works well in dynamic and agile teams 
  • Interest in the latest mobile trends and passionate about games :) 

Bonus Points: 

  • Experience and strong skills with database technologies like MySQL and experience working with applications/services running in AWS.
  • Experience working with Unity game engine.

The pay range for this position in Toronto, Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $35 and $39 per hour. 
However, base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards and eligibility to participate in our 401(K) plan and Employee Stock Purchase Program.
