Senior Software Engineer, Observability
Why this role matters
In this role, your work will directly support Ivanti’s mission to empower organizations through Autonomous Endpoint Management and deliver better outcomes for our customers. You’ll help IT and Security teams move from manual, reactive approaches to smarter, more proactive operations by developing and maintaining robust observability solutions. What you’ll do
- Support the development and maintenance of observability tools, including monitoring, logging, and tracing solutions.
- Deploy and manage platforms such as Azure Application Insights (AppInsights), New Relic, Prometheus, and Grafana for comprehensive system visibility.
- Work with OpenTelemetry to collect and export telemetry data and enable distributed tracing for improved insights and debugging.
- Assist with implementing structured logging, optimizing metrics collection, and improving system performance monitoring.
- Help build and refine alerting mechanisms to improve Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR) and reduce false positives.
- Contribute to scalable monitoring solutions in AWS and Azure cloud environments.
- Collaborate with DevOps and SRE teams to integrate observability best practices into CI/CD pipelines.
- Document runbooks, dashboards, and best practice guides to share knowledge and support ongoing observability initiatives.
What you will bring
- 5+ years of experience in observability, monitoring, or SRE roles.
- Hands-on proficiency with Azure AppInsights, New Relic, Prometheus, Grafana, and cloud-native monitoring in AWS and Azure.
- Experience with OpenTelemetry, AppInsights APM, and distributed tracing.
- Proficiency in Kubernetes/container monitoring and infrastructure automation (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM templates).
- Scripting skills for automation (Python, Go, Bash, or PowerShell).
- Strong understanding of SLIs, SLOs, and incident management frameworks.
- Excellent communicator and collaborator who enjoys sharing knowledge and supporting others.
Nice to have:
- Advanced Python programming skills.
- Experience with AIOps, predictive analytics, log aggregation pipelines, event-driven architectures.
- Azure, AKS, and AppInsights experience for telemetry and performance monitoring.
- Certifications in observability tools/cloud platforms (e.g., Azure).
- FedRAMP observability experience.
Roadmap for Success
- 3 months: Ramp up on Ivanti products, understand observability frameworks/tools, fix a few observability issues, and start collaborating with team members.
- 6 months: Contribute to observability frameworks, begin dashboarding, develop observability code for one product, and work with stakeholders.
- 12 months: Play a key part in FedRAMP observability initiatives.
