Lead Automation & Operations Engineer
Summary
We are looking for a versatile and highly motivated Lead Engineer to join our infrastructure team, blending responsibilities across DevOps, Build Engineering, and Test Automation. In this role, you will help streamline our Unreal development pipeline, maintain and evolve our automated build systems, develop frameworks to support automated testing, and manage our systems for collecting and presenting data from our automation pipeline.
Core Responsibilities
- Design, maintain, and optimize continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) based on Unreal Horde.
- Manage build systems and infrastructure for automated packaging, testing, and deployment.
- Troubleshoot build failures and support rapid turnaround for development teams.
- Develop support tooling based on Unreal Gauntlet and Horde for writing automated tests, executing tests, and reporting on results.
- Design and maintain Grafana dashboards for monitoring our build system infrastructure and data collected from automated performance tests.
- Monitor and improve infrastructure performance, reliability, and scalability.
Core Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in an automation/operations role on large-scale, AAA Unreal projects.
- Strong familiarity with Unreal’s build and packaging pipeline.
- Fluent in C#. Strong working knowledge of Unreal’s C# toolchain.
- Extensive experience with CI/CD systems such as Horde, Jenkins, TeamCity, or similar solutions.
- Highly proficient using Perforce, including stream management, Swarm, triggers, and permissions.
- Experience managing both in-house and AWS-based build infrastructure.
- Experience with common DevOps tooling including Terraform, Kubernetes, Grafana, Prometheus, and Loki.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose complex build and infrastructure issues.
- A collaborative mindset and strong communication skills, with a service-oriented approach to supporting development teams.

- Experience developing tools and troubleshooting issues within Unreal Engine.
- Experience developing UI-based tools for internal use (e.g., using Qt, Electron, or web frameworks).
- Experience in performance profiling or telemetry systems.

- Role is on-site in Santa Monica, CA or San Rafael, CA.
The base pay range for this position is $170,000 to $210,000 per year. Actual compensation is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
