
Associate Podcast Producer, Multimedia (Term-Limited)
ABOUT THE JOB
The ACLU seeks applicants for the full-time position of Associate Podcast Producer in the Marketing & Communications Department of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY. This is a hybrid role that has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month. This is a two-year term-limited position.
The ACLU Marketing & Communications Department creates, maintains, and expands message narratives to engage our supporters and other target audiences, to help protect and expand civil liberties and civil rights, and illustrate the value and impact of the ACLU’s work. Through our messaging, engagement with newsmakers, our written and social content, branding, and visual identity, we encourage support for the ACLU and help to create a more perfect union.
This position is part of a collective bargaining unit. It is represented by ACLU Staff United (ASU).
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Reporting to the Multimedia Director and working very closely with the Senior Executive Producer, the Associate Podcast Producer will assist in producing the ACLU’s flagship podcast, “Let the Record Show”. This includes assisting with episode development, pre-production research, studio booking, guest coordination and scheduling, transcription, and copy editing. The associate producer will work closely with the full podcast team including the podcast hosts, third-party production companies, fact checkers, and the podcast video editor.
YOUR DAY TO DAY
Pre-Production:
- Conduct in-depth research on episode topics, guests, and relevant policy, legal, or cultural developments to inform editorial direction
- Contribute to ideation meetings, pitching timely and strategic episode concepts aligned with organizational priorities and advocacy goals
- Draft episode outlines, briefing documents, and prep materials for hosts and guests, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and narrative flow
- Coordinate studio bookings and manage production calendars to ensure efficient scheduling and resource allocation
- Lead guest outreach and scheduling, including drafting invitations, coordinating availability, and preparing guests for recording sessions
- Assist with drafting promotional copy, teaser scripts, audiograms, and newsletter blurbs to support episode launches
Production:
- Participate in recording sessions (virtual and in-studio), supporting hosts and guests to ensure smooth, professional tapings
- Monitor recording quality in collaboration with audio engineers, flagging retakes or clarifications as needed
- Take detailed production notes during tapings to support editing, fact-checking, and post-production workflows
- Assist with live event recordings and special projects as needed.
Post-production:
- Copy edit transcripts for clarity, accuracy, tone, and accessibility
- Prepare show notes, including episode summaries, guest bios, key resources, and relevant links
- Identify and log timecodes, bookmarks, and pull quotes to support publishing, promotion, and audience engagement
- Help log and archive audio files, transcripts, and related assets in the Digital Asset Management (DAM) system following established metadata and tagging best practices
- Track and analyze podcast performance metrics (downloads, listener engagement, retention), identifying insights to improve reach and impact
- Monitor trends and emerging practices in podcast production and audio storytelling, recommending innovative approaches and format improvements

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience, and a demonstrated track record of success in audio or video production or post production
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills; strong attention to detail, ability to write and deliver work product under deadlines, and commitment to high quality standards
- Experience handling multiple video and audio formats
- Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously, often under tight deadlines
- Must be self-motivated, demonstrate grace under pressure and possess the ability to work well both independently as well as within a team
