Sr. Spacecraft Navigation Engineer

Based in Westminster, Colorado, this incredible team is looking for a Sr. Spacecraft Navigation Engineer who’s eager to push the state of the art in spacecraft navigation technology.

This position is responsible for leading development efforts, supporting a technically diverse team, and conducting detailed analyses of navigation technology and missions. The ideal candidate will be an experienced professional who can drive innovation, mentor junior engineers, and support spaceflight operations. This role will be based in Westminster, Colorado, and the ideal candidate will have a passion for the exploration, development, and settlement of space.

 

This position is open to U.S. Persons only (U.S. citizens, or lawful permanent residents), as required by applicable laws and regulations.

THE FOLLOWING ACTIVE SECURITY CLEARANCE is desired but not required - TS/SCI IS PREFERRED

Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed navigation analyses for spacecraft missions both in development and proposed
  • Developing new navigation algorithms based on performance requirements and system architecture
  • Architecting solutions for complex navigation challenges
  • Providing mentorship to younger engineers and collaborating with leadership on strategy and schedule
  • Supporting spaceflight operations, new technology conceptualization, business development efforts, and product and service proposals
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  •  8-12 years of relevant experience, with Master’s degree or PhD with emphasis on Kalman filters and state estimation
  • Experience in mission implementation of flight and ground navigation architectures
  • Experience developing navigation algorithms or designing filters
  • Proficiency in scientific computing and software development
  • Familiarity with navigation tools, such as MONTE, FreeFlyer, ODTK
  • Ability to work independently and define tasking based on top-level mission goals
  • Strong presentation and writing skills
  • Ability to contribute to planning/schedule
  • Experience with Python or similar analytic toolset
  • Active Security Clearance is desired

Experience in the following would be beneficial but not mandatory:

  • Understanding of 3-body orbit regimes or deep space navigation considerations
  • Knowledge of clock errors and their impact on navigation
  • Familiarity with radiometric navigation observables and error sources
  • Experience with orbit analysis tools, such as MONTE, GMAT, STK, FreeFlyer
  • High performance computing

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base Salary Range: $135,000 - $165,000 based on role, experience, and location
