Global Head of Scheme Compliance

To achieve this, Adyen has organized a mature Second Line function that partners with the business to cut through integrity risk complexities and power sustainable growth.

We are looking for a Global Head of Scheme Compliance based in San Francisco to join our Global Compliance team. Do you want to be at the forefront of enabling global payment functionality by leading, empowering and coaching a passionate team of Compliance experts? What you’ll do

  • Lead the Scheme Compliance team that owns the compliance framework for our payment method partners: - including the International Card schemes and Local Payment Methods.
  • Define and own the strategic engagement model with key Card Scheme stakeholders on compliance matters, risk trends, and operational requirements.
  • Support new product launches through risk assessments to ensure Card Scheme requirements are embedded into system design and operational processes from day one, while also driving alignment with partners to ensure Adyen remains at the forefront of payments innovation.
  • Partner with product, commercial, and operational teams to define and execute go-to-market strategies, ensuring they are compliant and commercially viable. Provide market insights from the Card Schemes to accelerate product development and commercialization efforts.
  • As a Senior Leader within Compliance: coach and mentor fellow members of the Card Scheme team as well as the wider Compliance Function to support them in their personal and professional growth.

Who you are

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in Payments Compliance, specifically including Card Scheme rules and requirements (Visa, Mastercard, etc.).
  • Minimum of 5 years team lead / managerial experience.
  • You have a proven track record in developing or advising on Compliance Frameworks for Payment partners (including Card Scheme and local/regional payment methods) and have experience translating complex rules into technical and operational requirements.
  • You are skilled in building strategic partnerships across internal stakeholders and external payment partners, leveraging these relationships to drive alignment and successful cross-functional outcomes
  • You have excellent organizational skills and know how to manage a project from conception to launch, especially those related to Scheme mandate implementation.
  • You have a proven track record in successfully navigating Card Scheme relationships, resolving compliance issues, and engaging strategically with their risk and regulatory departments.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
  • Passionate and driven about building a well-functioning and motivated team and mentoring and encouraging team members to continuously develop and grow.
