Driver Trainer ( Flatbed CDL A)

 

Position Summary

AFC Transport is hiring a Flatbed Driver Trainer to coach transitioning and experienced CDL-A flatbed drivers hauling lumber, steel, machinery, and coils. This role is hands-on and focused on safe securement, tarping, DOT compliance, trip planning, and OTR performance. You will partner with Safety and Operations to reduce preventable incidents, reduce cargo claims, and improve retention.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Train drivers to AFC standards on flatbed securement + tarping:

  • Lumber, steel, machinery, and coil (including proper coil orientation and securement practices)
• Coach load checks and re-securement habits (first 50 miles and required intervals)
• Reinforce DOT/FMCSA compliance (HOS, ELD best practices, inspection readiness)
• Provide coaching tied to performance and safety expectations; document training and progress
• Provide weekly updates to leadership on driver readiness and trends

 

Required Qualifications

• Valid CDL-A in good standing
• Proven OTR flatbed experience with lumber, steel, machinery, and coil
• Strong knowledge of cargo securement and tarping, and ability to teach it hands-on
• Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA, HOS, and ELD
• Strong communication and documentation skills

Work Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather
• Ability to climb trailers, throw straps/chains, tighten binders, and tarp loads as needed
• Frequent travel and time in the field with drivers
