Position Summary:

As the Formulary Strategies leader, you will play a strategic leadership role at AffirmedRx to bring clarity, integrity, and trust to formulary management.  Responsible for developing and maintaining formularies, bringing a clinically focused approach to all aspects of pharmacy benefit management. Brings extensive industry experience in Managed Care, Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM), and Clinical Pharmacy. Set and maintain clinical policies, lead and provide clinical recommendations across drug classes, and lead the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee meetings.  Develop utilization management protocols, monitor drug pipeline, and oversee a team of Analysts and Clinicians.

What you will do:

1. Team Leadership

  • Onboard, train, and manage staff, leading a team of Formulary Analysts and Pharmacists, providing both operational supervision and clinical strategic guidance
  • Provide mentorship and performance evaluations to maintain a high-performing team
  • Create, maintain, and update department policies and procedures

2. Formulary Development and Strategy:

  • Be accountable for ensuring formulary team accurately and timely inputs formularies into the formulary management system
  • Oversee creation and maintenance of comprehensive formularies aligned with organizational goals and regulatory requirements
  • Remain abreast of industry trends, emerging therapies, and pharmaceutical market changes to inform team formulary decisions.
  • Provide direct client consultation on formulary design, strategy, and operations

3. Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee Leadership:

  • Lead and participate in Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee meetings
  • Develop and present materials for committee discussions, ensuring clarity and relevance of information
  • Provide mentorship to team related to P&T preparation, recommendations, and presentation

4. Utilization Management Protocols:

  • Develop utilization management protocols, including Prior Authorization policies, to optimize drug utilization and control costs
  • Collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams to implement and monitor these protocols effectively
  • Support new Business Development activity, interfacing with current and prospective clients, providing clinical expertise and guidance

 5. Industry Experience:

  • Bring a wealth of industry experience in Managed Care, PBM, or Clinical Pharmacy to the role
  • Leverage your experience to make informed decisions, navigate industry challenges, and contribute to the organization's strategic direction

What you need:

  • PharmD required
  • Active and unrestricted Pharmacist license, not state specific
  • 10+ years industry experience in Managed Care, PBM, or Clinical Pharmacy.
  • Proven leadership experience, preferably in formulary development and management.
  • Strong understanding of pharmacy benefit design, drug utilization management, and healthcare regulatory landscape
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to align formulary strategies with broader organizational goals.
  • A high level of judgment, analytical ability and creativity in investigating problems that require original and innovative solutions.
  • A proactive can-do attitude, along with a strong capacity for empathy, emotional intelligence, and an inherent sense of curiosity.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, internal and external.
  • In-depth knowledge of pharmaceuticals, therapeutic areas, and healthcare trends.
  • Willingness and ability to travel (10%-20%)
