Location:

Ideally, this role will be based at Akaysha's Head Office in Melbourne, Cremorne. We'd also consider Brisbane, AU or Hobart, AU as alternate locations.

We're open to a hybrid working style; spend time in the office and at home.

Reporting to:

Market Performance Manager.

The role:

Akaysha is a company of exceptional people; among them are a trading team with 40+ years' experience across electricity spot trading, commodities and derivative trading, market analysis, software and automated bidding, and a team of energy market modelling specialists.

In this role you’ll sit within the trading team in our Operations Pillar, working directly with our traders, who combine automated bidding and human-led trading strategies. You’ll look deeply at the performance of day-to-day trading decisions and strategies to support the trading team in optimising these strategies and driving continuous improvement in trading outcomes. You’ll interact closely with our market modelling and analysis team as you create processes for performance and trading risk analysis and reporting from the ground up.

We are a rapidly growing organisation with huge projects and a strong funding pipeline; namely the most powerful BESS globally, Waratah BESS - 850 MW / 1680 MWh, and 3 additional utility scale projects in construction, with a mix of offtakes in need of trading optimisation. With time to dig into the effectiveness of autobidder settings and the trading strategies, your feedback will result in direct improvements to trading strategies and market outcomes across Akaysha's growing portfolio of assets.

Unlike other BESS Developers; we build, own and operate our assets at Akaysha - this creates a unique opportunity to be close to the action and learn from the experts on NEM spot trading strategies, autobidder operations, and market modelling.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Daily review of Akaysha's energy trading performance.
  • Evaluation and optimisation of Akaysha's energy trading strategies, in collaboration with the Spot Trading team and Energy Markets team.
  • Development, calculation and preparation of internal performance reports on the trading performance of Akaysha's operational BESS in the NEM, including on autobidder trading, human trading intervention, and trading risk, including automating in existing platforms.
  • Development of trading risk assessment methodologies and frameworks.
  • Management of data sources relevant to trading insight and analysis.
What you'll bring:
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Understanding of energy markets, trading strategies, and trading risk management principles.
  • Ability to talk the language of wholesale trading in the NEM.
  • Familiarity with and capability to develop and extend data analysis tools (ideally Python-based).
  • Ability to define and distil analysis, modelling and simulation conducted by other analysts and teams
Whilst not crucial, experience in the following would be highly advantageous:
  • Experience with BESS bidding in the NEM.
  • Experience with spot trading using autobidders.
  • Experience in the operations team of an electricity generation asset.
  • NEM spot/derivatives trading or NEM market analysis experience.
  • Experience developing risk models and analysing risk metrics for electricity trading
  • Experience wrangling data sources into reporting platforms.
  • Detailed knowledge of NEM dispatch processes, network constraints, price elasticity.
  • Experience modelling energy derivatives.

Please be aware you must be an Australian citizen, hold permanent residency status or have existing AU working rights to apply for this role.
