Location:
Ideally, this role will be based at Akaysha's Head Office in Melbourne, Cremorne. We'd also consider our Sydney or Brisbane offices as alternate locations.

The role:
As a Senior Energy Regulatory Compliance Specialist, you will contribute to the development of a compliance framework to determine and track regulatory, contractual and other obligations for Battery Energy Storage systems (BESS) operations, ensuring operational compliance within Akaysha Energy. The scope of this role involves compliance with the energy laws and regulations in Australia and across international markets, including National Electricity Law (NEL) and Rules (NER) as well as the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) and Australian Energy Market Operator’s (AEMO) Guidelines, Schemes, Procedures and Models.
This role will involve:
- Supporting the General Counsel in managing operational compliance with all energy regulatory frameworks across all corporate functions and BESS projects in Australia and globally.
- Partnering with internal stakeholders and business units to understand and assist in identifying regulatory obligations under energy laws and regulations including the NEL and NER, and managing compliance requirements through necessary policies, procedures and systems.
- Working with the business to establish and maintain compliance resources including registers, policies, procedures and systems and providing guidance across the business.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring obligations are appropriately allocated across the business and assisting obligation owners in managing their obligations
- Ensuring that appropriate compliance risk processes, systems, registers and business activities are established to manage compliance and drive continuous improvement in business processes
- Assessing existing controls to check for relevance, completeness and that they address the compliance risks
- Overseeing the accurate migration of all documented obligations into Akaysha’s compliance platform and monitoring of compliance.
- Preparing quarterly compliance reports, assisting in monitoring activities and ensuring accuracy through collaboration.
- Maintaining breach registers and supporting the business in the implementation of breach remediation activities for non-compliance.
- Designing and executing regular compliance audits and assessments.
- Identifying potential compliance risks and developing strategies to mitigate them.
- Establishing effective communication channels to disseminate updates on regulatory changes and compliance obligations while providing regular reporting on compliance activities.
- Participating in business improvement projects and providing actionable insights to enhance efficiency and compliance effectiveness.
What you'll bring:
- A passion for operational compliance in the context of Akaysha to enable the energy transition.
- 5+ years of regulatory compliance experience within a similar sector (desirable).
- Heightened ability to interpret, review and translate complex regulatory requirements and apply them in a practical way to our business processes, system and governance requirements.
- Hands-on compliance program management experience.
- A good working knowledge of the NEL and the NER as well as AER and AEMO guidelines and other procedures.
- Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and maintaining effective policies.
- Strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Solid organisational skills, including attention to detail, planning and monitoring
- Strong problem-solving skills and professional judgment.
