Position Summary:

Alarm.com (ADC) seeks a proactive and cross-functional System Integration & Hardware Validation Engineer to lead and implement system-level validation and integration of hardware for home and commercial security cameras and video doorbells. In this role, you will develop product level specifications and execute comprehensive validation plans that span major hardware subsystems, including wireless communication, sensor modules, imaging and optics, power and battery management, audio and acoustics, interface controls and overall system integration. You will be responsible for uncovering hardware issues during development by implementing both standard and edge-case system integration tests. Your work will directly improve ADC products and product development process, reducing instances of hardware defects slipping to customers, and enabling faster development and a better product experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System-Level Integration & Validation
    • Build and execute verification and validation processes that stress subsystems and the full system to surface component and integration issues
    • Develop test cases and automation for cross-domain interactions (e.g., WiFi, sensor interfaces, thermal, acoustics, image quality, SD card)
    • Own the creation and update of system test matrices based on field escapes and prior learnings
    • Work with SMEs to define system-level constraints, performance, and safety margins
    • Lead investigations on hardware issues found in validation or production (e.g., WiFi interop, leaking IR, image/thermal shortcomings, audio/capacitor anomalies)
    • Collaborate with designers to ensure issues are reproducible and fixes can be reliably validated
    • Create and maintain standardized test procedures to enable scaling of validation testing
  • Test Execution and Documentation
    • Assist in design and bring-up of hardware components as needed to facilitate integration testing
    • Execute and document environmental, reliability, and cross-system tests (e.g., full-system WiFi and PIR, image sharpness under varying temps)
    • Clearly summarize findings, risk assessments, and device release recommendations
    • Capture validation artifacts for hardware release (release note, test reports, lessons learned)
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Capture feedback from validation escapes into future test requirements and system design reviews
    • Work closely with electrical, firmware, mechanical, and product teams to ensure ongoing system-level test coverage
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • 4+ years hands-on experience in developing, integrating, or validating embedded hardware, bonus for consumer camera experience
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute system-level or cross-domain validation strategies
  • Strong hardware troubleshooting skills; demonstrated history of recreating and root-causing subtle or cross-domain hardware issues
  • Familiar with lab tools (oscilloscope, multimeter, logic analyzer) and hardware debug methodologies
  • Experience in documenting and delegating test procedures for handoff to other validation resources
  • Familiarity with common communication protocols (Wi-Fi, UART, I2C, SPI, USB), including Linux CLI
  • Effective communicator with an ability to drive cross functional discussion among Product, EE, ME, FW, and validation teams
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accountability, and a proactive, ownership-driven mindset
