Accounting & Finance Manager

Austin, TX

Company Overview

Allen Control Systems (ACS) is a cutting-edge defense startup founded by two ex-Navy electrical engineers with a proven track record in robotics and software. We are developing a small, autonomous gun turret that employs advanced computer vision and control systems to precisely target and neutralize small drones and loitering munitions. Our innovative approach requires overcoming significant technical challenges, making this an exciting and dynamic environment for experienced engineers.

With an engineering-first culture, ACS values technical excellence and continuous learning. Backed by our founders' successful exits from two previous ventures acquired for a combined $180M in 2022, we are committed to ensuring that the groundbreaking technologies we develop have a real-world impact.

Position Overview:

We are seeking an Accounting & Finance Manager to build and own the company’s financial backbone. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, developing scalable systems, and providing strategic financial insight as ACS grows from startup to growth-stage company and beyond.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting skills, direct experience with government contract compliance, and a proven track record in preparing and submitting government contracting proposals. This individual will be a key partner to leadership, ensuring ACS not only maintains financial discipline but also successfully pursues, manages, and grows government contracts.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead all accounting and finance functions, ensuring accurate books, compliant reporting, timely invoicing, and actionable financial insights.
  • Manage the full accounting cycle, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll coordination, reconciliations, monthly/quarterly close, and annual audits.
  • Own financial planning and analysis by building budgets, cash flow projections, and scenario models to guide leadership decisions.
  • Prepare and present timely financial reports to leadership with clear insights into company performance.
  • Oversee compliance with FAR/DFARS requirements and ensure accurate reporting for government contracts; support DCAA audits and cost-plus structures.
  • Lead or support preparation and submission of government contract proposals, including pricing, cost narratives, compliance documentation, and coordination with technical and business teams.
  • Evaluate and implement scalable financial systems, tools, and internal controls to support organizational growth.
  • Oversee tax filings and coordinate with external accountants and consultants as needed.
  • Partner with the Head of Business Operations and leadership team on strategic initiatives, fundraising preparation, and long-term planning.
  • Lay the groundwork for future leadership opportunities by shaping the finance function and potentially building a team as the company scales.

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, including at least 2 years in a leadership or manager-level role.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience with government contract accounting and compliance (FAR/DFARS); familiarity with DCAA audits and cost-plus structures is a plus.
  • Direct experience preparing, pricing, and submitting government contracting proposals (RFPs, RFQs, IDIQs, etc.).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); ERP/financial system implementation experience preferred.
  • Ability to balance detail-oriented execution with strategic thinking about long-term financial health.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to finance and non-finance audiences.

You’ll Stand Out If You Have:

  • Prior experience in defense, aerospace, or government contracting.
  • Hands-on experience implementing or scaling financial systems.
  • Demonstrated success partnering with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, fundraising, and proposal strategy.
  • A track record of building or formalizing finance and accounting functions in a startup or growth-stage company.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary
  • ACS Equity Package
  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Paid Time Off

Form CC-305

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
