Job Description
- Automotive Assembly Tooling Engineer Specialist, with a focus on tool design and installation, candidate will be responsible for the development and implementation of assembly tooling used in the production of automotive General Assembly systems. Candidates’ expertise will be critical in streamlining assembly processes, reducing costs, and ensuring tooling supplier accountability to functional tooling solutions for new and existing programs.
Tool Design & Development
- Design, develop, and validate assembly tools, fixtures, and equipment for the automotive manufacturing process.
- Utilize CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) to create and modify detailed drawings and specifications for tooling.
Installation & Commissioning
- Lead the installation, testing, and commissioning of tooling in the assembly line, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Collaborate with production teams to understand assembly requirements and ensure tool designs meet these needs effectively.
Process Improvement
- Analyze existing tooling and assembly processes to identify areas for improvement, cost reduction, and enhanced efficiency.
- Implement best practices in tooling design and provide recommendations for process improvements
Collaboration
- Work closely with cross functional teams including manufacturing, quality assurance, and product development to ensure alignment and successful integration of tooling in production.
- Provide technical support and training to assembly operators on the effective use and maintenance of tooling.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of tooling designs, project progress, and performance metrics.
- Prepare reports and presentations for management on project status, tool performance, and recommendations for future projects.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in tooling design and installation within the automotive industry.
- Proven experience in designing assembly tooling, jigs, fixtures, and automated equipment.
- Proficiency in CAD software (Autodesk, AutoCAD, Teamcenter).
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, particularly in automotive assembly.
- Excellent problem solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with project management methodologies and tools.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Civil / Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
- Familiarity with current automotive industry standards and regulations.
